PSU Stability Question

Hi,

I hope someone might be able to help me, I've got a system with the following specs;

Antec 900
Coolermaster Silent Pro M 1000w
Gigabyte X58A-UD3R
Intel Core i7 920
3 x 2gb OCZ Gold DDR3
Intel X25-M 80gb SSD
2 x 500gb SATA HD's
MSI GeForce GTX580 Lightning (running middle monitor)
GeForce GT210 (running left and right monitor)

Over the past few months I have noticed that during long gaming sessions when its been under load for a couple of hours my PSU will spin its fans up really loudly for a few seconds and then go back to normal. I assume its getting too hot and its a safety feature to cool itself? My GT210's PCI-E Slot is right above it (bottom mounted PSU).

Anyway, last week I had a random shutdown and when I restarted it I smelt burning for a couple of seconds although I cannot work out where the smell come from, all parts are working okay from what I can see, I can game etc fine.

I was told by a friend to do an OCCT GPU test which will create some screenshots at the end that might give us some pointers if there is a problem in my system.

So I wondered whether someone with some knowledge on PSU's would be kind enough to have a look at the attached screen shots and tell me whether I should do some more investigations on the system or not?

I have looked round the net to see other peoples test results and mine are very erractic, a few I found has a perfectly stable green line for the FPS, how come mine starts off stable then after a minute or two jumps around loads?

Many Thanks,

On an Antec 900 the PSU fan must be pulling air from inside the case. It may very well be overheating as a result of that, especially considering you've got the GT210 generating heat and blocking some of the airflow. Would be better off with a case that allows the PSU to pull air from below the case.

Yeah I know its not the best design for the PSU's airflow but it never happend before a few months ago so I'm wondering whether the PSU is on its way out because if it is it's under warranty at the moment.

Do you know if the graphs look okay or not?

I'm not sure about the graphs. Would rather not say anything that hypothesize and make misleading conclusions.

It says "2 Errors" in each graph though. What were they?

they show up as tiny white spots on the picture that gets displayed during the gpu test in occt.

I've seen some peoples tests hit like 300,000 errors so I dont think they are as bad as they first sound but would like to get some others opinion on the matter.

cheers for your help :)
