So, I'm needing a new psu that is quieter so I ditched my old PSU and now need to know what to get as a replacement.

I don't want to spend a lot, but I don't want to get crap either.

This is my #1 choice right now...
Seasonic S12II 520w

Is this cutting it too close? Can I go down to a 430-480w and be ok?

..........................................................................
RIG:

X4 945 (125w)
8GB DDr2
9800GTX+ (MIGHT go to a 1GB GTX460 later though)
(1) SSD, possibly adding a 2nd one later
(1) DVDR
............................................................................

Other than the above...a usb drive here and there is pretty much all I run. I have a file-server for storage so I only have the 1 SSD right now but will most likely end up w/ a 2nd one or maybe just go with a bigger one.

Will end up getting a new vid card within the next year I'm sure, either the 460 or a 6870 or something.

You'll absolutely be fine with the Seasonic 520. I would not go with a 430w PSU if you plan on running a GTX460 with your CPU and will do any sort of overclocking. You'll hit about 300w under load without overclocking, and that's cutting it sort of close with a 430w. Not that it wouldn't run, but it would be putting a lot of stress on the PSU.

If you're willing to do a rebate, there's this excellent Corsair 650w model on sale at Newegg for $60 after coupon/rebate/free shipping: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139005. Code: EMCKJJG23. That would come out cheaper than the Seasonic.

Your choice - either one would power your rig without a problem.

Alright...so it's between those 2...which one would be better?

I'm not looking to O/C really, just clean power, efficient, and QUIET!

I've not had either type of psu before...but both have been rated really well. It's a $40 (upfront) difference between the 2, in the end they'll be almost the same.

Are you comparing the Seasonic 520 and the Corsair 650? The upfront difference is $11 (Seasonic is $69 with shipping, Cosair is $80 with free shipping), but the end price is $9 in favor of the Corsair ($60). At those prices, it's no contest. Get the Corsair. The Seasonic is great, but it's not likely to be any quieter, and it gives you more room to grow.

If you'd rather not deal with a rebate, then the Seasonic is still a great choice. It appears to be more efficient, and if you don't plan on ever going with a second video card, you'll never need more power.

Yea, the Corsair is actually one that I really wanted when I first built my pc about 5 months ago but I just couldn't afford it and snagged a deal on a great psu (but turned out the loud-ness annoyed me too much).
