PSU reccomendations

Hi, I'm looking for a modular psu that will support a 4770k and a gtx 780 ti. I will be overclocking and maybe doing SLI in the future. Under 100$ is preferred.

Why does that matter?

Just a matter of preference I guess... Then there's also this:
The only "problem" the occurs with multiple +12V rails is that when a +12V rail is overloaded (for example: more than 20A is being demanded from a rail set to only deliver up to 20A), the PSU shuts down. Since there are no "limits" on single +12V rail PSU's, you can not overload the rails and cause them to shut down..... unless you're using a "too-small" PSU in the first place. Single +12V rails do not have better voltage regulation, do not have better ripple filtering, etc. unless the PSU is better to begin with.

I prefer not having to think which cable belongs to which 12v rail.

Enermax Revolution X't 530W ATX 2.4 (ERX530AWT) would be my suggestion.
While it only has a single 12V line, and therefore a higher risk of running 43amps through a not-quite-short, it's quite cheap, has detachable cables for the non-essentials, and plenty power for your rig, while running just under $100.
It comes with 5 year warranty too, at least in Europe, and is from a respectable brand.
It also has a 140mm fan, which should work out well for noise/thermals.

edit: AND it's reasonably sized, only 160mm long.

For under $100 the SeaSonic made Corsair TX750v2 is a pretty good deal... no, it's not modular, but all you are going to have extra in a XF rig is maybe the Molex string. Fold it up, zip-tie it to the bottom of the case....

OP wants to SLI 780s in the future...

Then he should review his budget. The 730W version of the Enermax I suggested is an interesting pick though. The Revolution87 + 850 is also below $150, if you find some old stock.

Going below $100 dollar for a PSU that powers $1500-$2000 in other hardware is unwise.

Agreed. Under $100 for modular and that high for wattage and quality is not happening.

Seriously if you want a quality modular PSU for your needs, you'll have to pay a bit more unless there's a special hot deal somewhere. You could always buy a used one on the forum though or craiglist/classified

Bullsh!t. I picked up my 850w XFX BEFX gold modular PSU for $95 after sale and rebates.

And the XFX 850w BEFX can be had right now for about $100-110 shipped after sales and rebates.

And just a heads up, this 850w XFX unit is a SEASONIC KM3 unit build. People who know PSU's know that the KM3 is one of the best PSU designs out there period.

It never ceases to amaze me how people want to hook up all matter of high dollar equipment to a bargain basement ps. These are the same ones who scream bloody murder when it goes out and takes their components with it. On the other had if a person can score a quality ps on sale that's a great thing as well.
