Everytime I put a dvd or cd into my dvd drive, it starts up then my system freezes but I can still move my mouse. It stays on like it is reading the cd and the hdd light stays on as well. This goes on indefinitely.

The rails are within spec.

Was that taken with a mulltimeter or from software measurement?

Try running Prime95. See if it still has the problems.

If not, it is probably related to the drive - I've had drives lock up an entire comp before when I put in a bad DVD.

That 12V is a little weak there bro. Some mobos have a sensitivity to the 12V rail. You should see if your PS has a potentionmeter that you can bump up the voltage with.

its not the disks in the drive, i think its the drive itself, or the mobo ide socket but i dont have anything to check it against.

I've had similar problems, but they're all disc-related. For example, none of my Green Day CDs would run...no other problems, just those specific discs. Anyway, if it's not disc-related, it's probably the drive. Hopefully it's not the board.
