PSU Questions

Hello everybody,

I am a newbie who doesn't have a clue about PSUs. All I know is that PSUs are VERY important and that its better to have a brand name PSU like antec or enermax rather than some higher powered no-name. But can you guys explain all the numbers involved?

Also, I currently have a Dell 4600 that has a stock PSU of 250 watts. I am running a P4, with 1 dvd writer, 1 cd writer, 2 HDs, and a GeForce 5200, and an audigy zs platinum pro. I was told that really needed to upgrade my PSU so I JUST bought the Super Flower 550W PSU for 30 bucks from directron. Was this a good choice? Do I even need a new PSU? Should I have gone with an Antec or Enermax or Fortron?

Thanks.

if your computer is fine the way it is, there's nothing for you to fix.
Dell stock psu is pretty quiet, so if you change to the super flower psu, I guess it will be louder.

For me, I changed my PSU because I want a quiet psu.
