PSU question

I picked up a new PSU yesterday, a Antec NeoPower ATX 480W, and it seems quite nice. The only problem is that there is a funky smell (kinda like "new car smell"; I don't think it's plastic or burning or such) that comes out when the power is on.

Is there a burn-in period for newer PSUs in which they might have an odd odor, or is my PSU going to wind up being RMAed due to some kind of defect? I don't recall any kind of oddities like this in the past with older PSUs, but then, I haven't built a new system in a few years. All the power values look rock solid, so I haven't noticed anything that it hasn't been able to do properly.

Any input would be appreciated.

Since it doesn't smell like burning plastic and the rails are solid, I'd keep using it. Maybe it's just "fresh paint".

I'm guessing it has at least a one year warrenty, if so just give it a "break in" period and see if the smell goes away.

Yea, thats pretty normal for a new power supply, and indeed a lot of eletrical products that contain some kind of transformer. Due to their nature they can get quite hot and produce this smell. It'll wear off after a few hours use.

m'kay. Maybe the reason why I couldn't smell my Enermax noisetaker 420 watt PSU when I built my computer last week was because I had a cold. Well, I don't want to smell my computer anyway. 😉
