PSU Question

I don't have much for experience when it comes to PSU's going south. So let me know your all thoughts on this.

Had/have a PC issue, and after about 5 attemps of booting into Windows and getting a BSOD then restarting it shut down. After that I tried to power it up and only my cpu and one case fan would spin up. I had an old Antec PSU that I through in there and it posted right up. Now the PSU that was in my PC before was the Forton Blue Storm 500W PSU less then two months old. My question is, is that a normal thing to happen after all those BSOD's or should I go ahead and RMA the PSU?

I just bought it, I don't want to go off and buy another. I don't have cash laying around, I'm actually trying to scrounge up the change to be able to send it. My question still remains if this is a normal occurance when you get so many BSOD's and restarting or if it's something to concern myself about and to just sent it back.

If you had no problems at all with the Antec PSU but get all the problems with the Fortron, then the Fortron is FUBARed. RMA the Fortron, get a refund if possible, and get a better PSU.

😕

A better PSU you say...

That and FORTON IS A QUALITY PSU!

Gah people can really not make much sense and less help at times.

Umm... So you are hanging onto a non-working PSU just because it has a "good" brand name? That sure makes a lot of sense.. 😕

What are you even talking about? Seriously, you lost me two posts ago.

RMA the Fortron, get a refund if possible, and get a better PSU.

Why would I want to get a refund and get a new PSU when I can do an RMA and get another Forton PSU when Forton PSU are considered a great...GREAT quality PSU?

My question still remains if this is a normal occurance when you get so many BSOD's and restarting.

Yes Forton is a quality psu. But your looks like it is bad, I would RMA it. I would consider replacing it with an Antec.

By definition, if you get so many BSODs and restarts, it is NOT normal, LOL.

Just so there is no misunderstanding, after you got all the BSODs and restarts with the Fortron, you swapped in the Antec and the system started working fine, correct? If that's the case, then the Fortron is screwed up. Simple deductive reasoning.

And if you would like to chance it with another Fortron instead of going for something else better (say maybe a PC Power and Cooling), hey, it's your money. I have no brand loyalty-- If I get a bad experience with one brand, I'm switching to another.

You can and will get a defective product from all companies. With the good ones, it just happens less.

Fortron is a good company. You simply got a bad unit.

Yep, sounds like you suffer from Pr0d1gy luck...lol

Just RMA it when you can afford to, because that is a great PSU. On a side note, don't feel bad...I think I got the only faulty PC Power & Cooling PSU on the planet when I built my new gaming computer
