Alright, I read the AAT PSU roundup, and it opened my eyes so a problem.

I'm doing 2 projects right now in which I was going to take PSUs out of their housing to put into the cases.
But what about EMI and that stuff? Is it going to cause a large problem? And also, what are some ways to shield against it? I was thinking of pounding out and cutting up the PSU housing as much as possible to block it off. And EMI isn't dangerous to people, correct?

thx...

You could make a grounded mesh cage around the thing, but the closer you fit it to the shape of the components, the dicier it would be, especially if any heatsinks are live. I don't know what kind of frequencies typically come out of a typical PC switching power supply, so I can't say what size holes you can get away with and still be doing a bang up job of shielding it.

It probably doesn't matter anyway. :p

I'm really wondering about that test. Presumably if I use non-ECC, I should be able to detect errors as well (as just plain old errors)... maybe I'll set up a couple caseless PSUs next to my ram and see if running them has any effect.
