PSU problems

So today i turn on my computer and i notice a burning smell, so i kill it ASAP look for smoke/fire in the case and feel around for any overly hot heatsinks. Then i load up XP go into Abit EQ and look, everything is fine except the +3.3 rail is at 3.02. Now i would think that it was just a inaccurate mobo except for the buring smell. Im getting a voltometer to and checking it out, but does it sound like a bad PSU?

Dunno.

Run a stress test (prime95 etc...) and see if your system is still stable. If it is, that burning smell might have just been some dust or something?...

the burning smell is every time i start the damn thing. I hate computers as much as i hate cars right now.

The rail was at 3.3 before?

Could well be...

Don't put too much strain on your PSU (e.g. Prime95 testing), it may become too unstable, blow up, and take some parts with it... Make sure it still is stable, and if you are, then do some stress testing...

What PSU is it actually? OMG, one of those expensive Seasonic S12's... I just hope for you it isn't ruined...

i had rug fibers burning in my heatsink at one point... the software reading for the psu doesnt really mean anything. get a digital multi-meter from radioshack and check the voltages, you can just return it after you use it.

yea, i borrowe a digital meter and it came out fine. Must be something burning in because it seems like its going away, but i don't have much running on the PSU now.
