I was having trouble understanding the cable types.

This really helped me learn what all the cables sticking out of my new PSU are for, and if I have everything I need.

You just need to know what type or PSU your looking at [for example ATX12V 2.0], and how many of each connector it has got.

Well the table there of the different ATX standards and the connectors they have pretty much says it all. Now with the 2.x specs you these connectors.

1 24 pin main
1 P4/EPS (some PSUs come with both the P4 and the EPS)
1 or more PCI-e be it the 6 pin or the 8 pin version of the connector

As for the number of SATA, 4 pin perifial, and floppy drive connectors they will very from one unit to the next. But you can pretty much be sure there are about 3 4 pins and 3 SATA connectors on most PSUs.

Now most PSUs you find now are 2.0 and above. The side of the box or the internet page about the PSU will tell you the connectors it has and how many of each there are.
