Previously I had written:
"One other question while I'm typing. When i first plugged in the connectors for the new psu there was a 20 + 4 arrangement for the main connect. I plugged them both in and the computer wasn't able to start up properly. It went to an "attempting start-up fix" screen but couldn't solve the problem. I noticed that the old psu connector didn't have the + 4 connector so I disconnected that after shut off and restarted. That solved it."
Actually that didn't solve it. The mouse was acting erratically and there was some other odd functioning so I had another look. Turns out that when I first connected the main power to the mobo I plugged
in the 20 pin connect first and then the +4 pin. Well, on closer inspection the two are mated such that the +4 pin has to go on first or it won't seat properly which is what happened first time around.
I corrected that and the computer started normally. Everything functioning fine now. I'm learning that small details can make a big difference in such projects. ;-)
Intel cpu E2180 is now on order (thanks heyboo). I'll post an update once i get that installed.
