Psu paperclip question

So i i know how the test works and how to do it, green to black. But i run into a problem when wanting to do so. Corsairs ax series have ALL black wires. Is there any way to find out which is which? If you want to know why i want to test it, its because my last one blew up, sparks and all. INSIDE my case, this one has never been plugged in or used. I just opened it. I also wanted to know, there is no risk of the paperclip shocking you right? :awe:

IIRC, pin 14(green) and 15(ground) on the 20pin connector, but I'll let another chime in to confirm. All this will tell you is if the power supply / fan is dead if the fan doesn't spin. You aren't putting any sort of load on the power supply so you won't know how it handles that until you do.

Well i can tell you right now it should be able to, i kinda went overkill on it. Im using 24 pin. How do i count to which pin it is, like i wouldnt know if its from the left or the right or the top row or the bottom row

Also, really don't recommend a paperclip, get a small resistor to hold down on current, it shouldn't be an issue, but psus should burn up inside your case either...

A paper clip is fine, the Intel ATX12V power supply design guide specifies that the power supply provide an internal pullup resistor between the PS_ON# input and TTL high. The system is designed to have PS_ON# and ground shorted. Current is limited by the value of the pullup inside the PSU.

No, the square on the right is the lock for the connector. You want to bridge the black and green squares.

I think you're using different words for the same part. YES, it's the clip/lock for the connector that "locks" it into the connector on the board.

Read the Corsair thread. You need some load on the PSU for a proper function test. USUALLY, just a fan will be enough, but sometimes, you also need to connect a load such as a HDD to get the proper test.
