i have just made a new system yesterday on asus p4s533 2.4b p4 on an sis shipset w/ samsung ddr333 (2700) cas2.5. after installing windows and drivers the system would lockup while booting into windows. i think the problem is the psu since when i turn the psu on then off it boots properly sometimes and i was even able to overclock to 2.5ish and successfully boot then i ran prime95 for about an hour w/ no problems. can the psu cause those kinds of problems and if not then what could? btw the system would fail to boot into safe mode also it did the exact same thing. cputemp=110ish mbtemp= 100ish

Yes it could be the power supply, but defective mobos can also cause this....To date I have seen many power supplies be blamed for many ailments and I would have to say in most instances and seemingly more frequently this is a result of defective or poorly designed mobos....

Test the power supply on another system....I have heard of some weird restasrt issues on a lot of mobos not sis specifically...

thanks 4 the help, so far i got a no-name brand generic psu that came w/ the case it's 350w although it has less connectors than my 300w antec. i noticed when i installed the mobo that some of the capacitors were bent or lose, i think the board was stored upside down under something heavy. anyway my voltages are all out of spec. right now going idle they are: vcore 1.556, +3.3v: 3.168, +5v: 5.134 +12v: 11.778. my vcore is set to 1.5 .050 is way above spec i think. are these normal volt readings or maybe the mobo has some problems. although when i turn the psu off or unplug it then turn the psu back on it always boots stable but if i leave the psu on over an hour and the pc off it hardly ever boots into windows even in safe mode. u guys in this forum are the best.
