PSU making clicking noise, PC won't power on

So I just finished swapping motherboards out. The only thing that has changed is the motherboard, all other components are confirmed working. Got my water loops assembled and bled. Series of events is as follows.

Booted the computer
No Post, ASrock error LED screen displays 00 continually.
Unplug machine, check wiring, everything looks good
Boot machine
No Post, ASrock error LED screen displays 00 continually.
Unplug machine, clear CMOS
Plug machine back in, PSU makes a faint click-click
Machine won't power on at all.

I'm certain I don't have any leaks, so I don't think water is the issue. In case there is a drop of water somewhere shorting something, I'm letting it sit and am going to come back to it tomorrow.

In the mean time, any ideas? Is the motherboard just DOA or did my PSU randomly kick the bucket?

Could be a few things, but yeah I'd guess a short. Tho not necessarily from water.

Edit: insert a "not" to make sense...

At it again this morning!

So click-click noise happens when I switch the PSU power swich into the on position. Noise doesn't happen when motherboard power is unplugged. So the problem is with the motherboard.

Either it is DOA or something is shorting it somewhere.... Going to start by unplugging all case wires and removing any expansion cards I can. Removing the GPUs requires draining everything, so basically I'm going to remove everything I can without draining the loops.

did you try removing the board from the case and powering it up?

no boot with system out of case and different PSU. Motherboard is DOA. Reassembling with old mobo :(

Swapped in old motherboard computer now turns on for a few seconds and then immediately turns off and loops indefinitely. I swapped the RAM with RAM from another machine and identical results. I'm thinking since the boot process doesn't get very far that it isn't GPU related, so that really only leaves CPU.

Looks like that short toasted my CPU. Great.... I guess I'm buying Ivy Bridge and living on my laptop for a few days. Far from ideal.

Such are the perils of custom water loops I suppose. :( You can probably get another i5 2500K for cheap if you don't mind buying used though. Plenty of people will be dumping them for IB, and SB looks to be better for overclockers anyway.

I don't think my perils are the result of water cooling. Bad mobo has internal short, kills CPU. Only bad part about water cooling right now is that I have to drain everything to swap parts around and that takes quite a bit of time.

Mobo is en-route to newegg for RMA service. Picked up a new 2550k from amazon. Not a huge fan of used CPUs, who knows what kind of life they have lived... I can't wait for Ivy Bridge and it isn't worth the wait, I need my computer up and running ASAP. So at the end of the day, I'm out almost 400 bucks because of this mess.

2550k is install and loops are all bled. Machine booted up and is running fine. Old mobo is giving me its usual crap, but it will work for now. So nice to have my rig back up and running.
