PSU Issues After Loading Latest Dell Drivers: Coincidental?

I got encouragements from Microsoft to upgrade to Win 10. Unfortunately, I did not check with Dell whether they recommend the upgrade. It turns out that Dell does not recommend my model (XPS 8500) to be upgraded to Win 10.

1 day after the upgrade, I ended up with "System Thread Exception Not Handled". One solution for resolving this error, after much googling, was to download Win 10 drivers from Dell. Well, that's how I found that Dell doesn't recommend it. There are no drivers. Here's what Dell says:

Product not tested for Windows 10 upgrade. Dell is not testing or developing Windows 10 drivers for this product. If you choose to upgrade, some features, applications, and connected devices may not work as expected.
I got stuck in a loop with the BSOD with the above error message and couldn't load: Continue; Troubleshoot; Turn Off Pc. If I Continue/ Troubleshoot, it would go into a loop. I eventually stuck a boot disk to DVD drive to load into Win 10 and was able to restore my Win 8.1 back.

At this time, I was told that the "System Thread Exception Not Handled" error may have been due to not having Dell's latest driver updates for my XPS 8500. So I went to Dell's site, downloaded and executed all of the drivers for my system (all in Win 8.1).

I started having H/W problems, then, which seems awfully coincidental:
  • The monitor won't recognize the computer and goes into Power Save mode.
  • Once, it started by itself after I left alone for 15 minutes (not anymore, however).
  • Some grunting noise from the back where the power supply is located when turned on earlier.
  • The starter button is no longer lighting up, even though the computer seems to be on. Once on, you can't turn the system off without unplugging the cord.
I am trying to ferret out if this is an issue involving my power supply / starter. What are my options here? Should I try to replace the PSU and see what happens? I did invest quite a lot into system, have had it for only 2.4 years and it just went off warranty.
