Ive noticed my psu is getting pretty warm when i dont have my air con on.. like its pretty warm to the touch, when i have my air con on the psu fan drops right off but its still abit warm, is there any way to enforce the fan speed?

Its final in windows and some games but when i play wow / fear for awhile and i dont have my air con on it greats pretty hot :(

well, if the voltage readings are far from normal, it's a sign that your PSU could be dying.

my old AXP's 400W started heating up while the voltages were not reading correctly and I never really thought it was a bad thing...until one day, while I was playing Halo, my computer shut down and didn't come up again (until I replaced the PSU). the PSU was hot and there was a bad smell coming from it. i say you should get yourself a higher quality (e.g. Enermax, Antec, Seasonic) if your PSU isn't that great (e.g. Aspire, JustPC, Raidmax).

how can i find the voltage readings and what are considered normal?

Actualy mine did the same awhile back , it got really hot and a smell and the whole comp turned off and i had to wait a few secs for it to come back on. But it seems fine now , its not getting really hot... but its annoying me coz it is abit hot and the fan only seems to work when it feels like it -.-

Like atm i got my air con on and its keeping my room at 18c and the psu is completly cool and i can barely feel it. But if i turn my air con off it doesnt really kick the fan up enough and it gets warm.

A bit dusty maybe? Not enough airflow going through your PSU? 18°C is cool, and it is normal that a PSU generates some heat, but if you're saying it's actually quite hot, that could be a sign it's not faring so well anymore...

What brand and specs is it?

EDIT: Most reliable is a volt meter, but you can try with MotherBoard Monitor 5...

atm i got rthdribl and prime95 going maxing out my 3d card and cpu / ram trying to make them hot cpu is upto 52 , and gpu is 72 with 16x multisample etc , i turned on amd cool and quite in the motherboard and the psu fan is still going really slow but its starting to warm up.

Also i turned the air con off.

ALright
core 0 =average 1.43v
core 1 0v
+3.3 =average 3.28v
+5 = average 3.02v
+12 =average 10.86
-12 = average 0.05
-5 = 0

and it doesnt pick up my cpu / system / fan rpms etc yet coz i havnt reset my system and i havnt selected my motherboard im just using the asus motherboard monitor to get the current temps but it doesnt have 1 for psu. The the -12 and -5 are coming up red but i think its coz it cant detect them.. i dont really have any clue.

Hmm, the temps for your components seem really good, and the combo of those two programs should indeed give you the most heat...

I know how good the airflow is, as I have one myself... My GTX goes only up to 62°C, and my CPU up to 40°C under heavy load...

There wasn't a PSU included with that case, but if it can power a 7800GTX, it's probably not bad... What is possible, is that your PSU uses a single slow-spinning 120mm fan... Those PSU's can get hot, but that's mostly nothing to worry about...

Hmm, what were those voltages measured with??? That's probably a software bug...

EDIT: Check them in your BIOS...

Yes, normally the Shark is a case-only... Doesn't it say a brand or a product number on the side? The Shark has an easy-to-remove side panel...

EDIT: Check voltages in your BIOS...

Not weird at all, the P4 stuff is mentioned on every one... ;)

So there is no brand name... 500W is respectable, but not if it's from QTec or so... :p

Yes it is... :D I have never seen this kind of PSU (and I know a lot...) That doesn't mean it's a bad thing, but could you give me the Amps on the rails please...? And do check your voltages in the BIOS, they should me more precise...
