i'm looking for a new psu for my system. for the most part it will be running at 80% total systam usage. (CPU 100%, gpu idle)

system is the same as signature..

what would be best the silencer 610 or silencer 750?

i heard something about running at the psu's 80% load is the most efficient..

would running my system at high usage 24/7 kill the silencer 610 early?
 
anybody? i'm thinking of the silencer 610... would that be good to run my system at 100% (cpu/gpu) load for 5 years?
i run fah on cpu and gpu.

 
Q9550 at 3.5, P35 Asus P5KE, 8 GB of DDR2, 1 GTX 8800, 3 HD and 1 SSD drive, dedicated Asus DX2 sound card PCI-e, PCI N draft wireless card and 6 120 fans. All this and I am running a 600 watt PS for 2 years (had a q6600 before)... never ever an issue.

I do hours and hours and hours of video encoding.. maxes my system right up. You would be amazed at just how little power you need. I also have a PC&C 750 silencer. I loved it but it's anything BUT silent and so I sold it. My OCZ is way more silent.
 
Around 50% is usually the sweet spot, which for your system would mean a ~400W PSU.

Antec Earthwatts or Seasonic are good choices, 380W or 430W.

no sorryyy.. i dont think i'm giong to run my system off of a 380 watt psu.

why would u recommend that to someone? i think a system runninh 24/7 at full cpu/gpu load would kill a 380watt psu in less than half a year
 
What does the wattage have to do with anything? A good quality PSU can put out it's rated power for way more than half a year, be it 300W or 1200W.
 
Anyway, I recommend the BFG ES-800, Corsiar 750TX, and the PC P&C 750. Your system will be right there in the sweet spot of PSU longevity, noise and heat.

Some notes about power supplies and power usage:
- Power supplies last longer if you stay in the 40% to 60% range of their output.
- Power supplies are quieter if you stay in the 40% to 60% range of their output.
- Power supplies are cooler if you stay in the 40% to 60% range of their output.

i'm still having a bit of trouble understanding why you're recommending someone with my system in my signature a 380watt antec
 
if my system draws 240watts at semi-full load, that would leave me at about 63% of 380watts.
my system would be at 39% out of 610 watts. which would u choose to run ur system 24/7 for years?
 
get the Corsair TX750. Right now on newegg it is $105 with a $35 MIR if you buy it today. Today is the last day for the rebate to apply.

60A on a single +12v and great reviews from everywhere I've looked. Even JohnnyGuru said it's a good unit.

i ended up getting the PCPC 610 for $59.99 AR ($35). 49A on single +12v is good enough for an OC'd Q6600, and an 8800gt, etc (system in signature)

sorry to disappoint those people that enjoy telling people to get 380watt psu's to power mid-range systems like mine.

As long as your PSU doesn't run above 75% of maximum capacity the cooling solution will keep it at a safe operational temperature. The chance of either dying would just be determined by the quality of parts. And quality has nothing to do with maximum output.
 
all else being equal, a psu running at its 40% of max output will last longer than a psu running at 75% of its max output.
 
just installed my 610 Silencer and for the past 30-45 mins running p95 its been great. as quiet as my 3-4 year old FSP Epsilon 600watt psu. i replaced it because i thought it was the culprit of my PC freezing under long periods of Load. i'd never get a BSOD, or a failed prime thread, just freezing desktops. usuallt it'd take about 6-12 hours for the pc to freeze under load. do u guys think it was a PSU problem also?

but w/e that. im' running the same p95 test. my goal is 24 hours under SmallFFT load. then i'll be going back to overclocking my Q6600. the highest i've had it was 3.55ghz@1.4vCore. at that time, i was temperature limited. i'll report back after this 24hour run @ stock speeds.
