PSU for new build

I'm just looking for some reassurance on a power supply for my coffee lake build.

- 8700k (will be overclocked)
- Asus Maximus X Hero
- EVGA GTX1080 FTW (again will be overclocked)
- 2 HDDs and a DVDRW drive
- custom loop with D5 pump, probably 4-6 fans

I've always a stuck to ~700 watt PSUs in the past but, as I haven't built since 1st Gen i7, Bloomfield, so some of these parts won't be quite as power hungry as what I was used to then.

Was thinking a corsair hx750. Would the 850 be necessary? I've encountered many definitions of proper power headroom.

I always use this power supply calculator, put in the parts for my build, and up the voltage and clock speeds to whatever I think would be the maximum I could overclock the GPU and CPU (even if it's in excess of what I think I will actually run at). Then I also add in whatever devices or cooling I think I might possibly add in the future. That gives a good power supply wattage to look for, with enough headroom (especially if it's an efficient one).

In your case 750W would be enough, and with headroom.

I ended up pulling the trigger yesterday afternoon. Used the calculator over at seasonic's website out of curiosity and doesn't look like I'll be pulling more than around 500 watts, if even that. Normally I stick to the 700ish watt range as mentioned in the original post but I found evga's supernova 850 watt g2 for 99 dollars and since it seemed to be pretty well liked by reviewers, I went with it. Also I felt like I had read somewhere that the 750w version of the same PSU had issues with noisier fans.
