PSU fan speed fluctuating

Hi
I have an Antec PP-403x, I know it has some sort of load-sensing cooling fan, but I never noticed any changes until recently. It works fine, just that now I hear it slow down for a few
seconds, then back up to speed. Does it every 30 sec to couple of minutes or so. The load on the system is constant during this time, as far as I know. It's done it 3 times while I have
posted this. Is it anything to worry about? Or did I just not notice it before (not likely, I'm really tuned into noises)?

The Antec 400W PSU fan does this a lot. The fan is a RPM controlled "Smart Fan", but many people, including me get driven nuts by this. It is normal, but if it bothers you, you can switch out the fan for one that can connect either to your PSU or a motherboard header directly so it runs at full speed all the time. Also, there is also a mod supposedly that will let the stock fan run @ full speed all the time too, but I'm not to sure how it's done. 🙂

Not sure about the 403 model, but I just opened up my Antec power supply (don't remember the model, but next model up - 400W - PP412X I think) and it had a small board connected to the heatsink that the fan plugged into (Probably some some of temperature transducer). That little board had the exact connector (of the fan) plugged into the main board. I simply unplugged the small board and plugged the fan into the main board (which had "fan" silkscreened on it, by the way)and now fan runs at a constant speed. A tad louder, but no more up and down noise fluxuations.

Good Luck...

🙂
