Alright, two weeks ago my PSU blew up. I finnaly bought a replacement, an Antec 480w Trueblue

All i did was replace the PSU and everything remained the same. Now, i know some other components could be dead because when i fire it up now, i get spinning fans and all the leds come on.

I have no video, no POST beeps, no HD activity, and the power switch on the motherboard doesn't turn the computer off.

I'm just curious as to how i should go about testing components or if testing them could fry my other computers.

From the sounds of it i believe my:
-mobo is fired
-videocard is fried
-soundcard is fried (speaker make a loud pop when i power on)
-possibly fried harddrives

The odd thing is, the green 'OK' light on the motherboard comes on, but i know it isn't booting into windows because there is no HD activity.

I tried just jamming just a bunch of buttons to see if i could get the internal speaker to beep but no go.

So.... what to do now?

1) confirm your keyboard is in the purple port, not the green one (assuming it's a PS/2 keyboard, round plug)

2) take the motherboard out of your case, lay it on cardboard, and try bargaining with it a little, you know they like to feel they're in a position of power ;) Then put in your video card and seat it firmly, add one memory module in the slot that your motherboard manual says is the right slot for a single module, no mouse, no keyboard, no drives or any other non-essentials, and see if it'll POST.

3) if that didn't work, try unplugging the system, removing the CMOS battery, clearing the CMOS for 30 seconds, and reversing the procedure, and see if that helped.

Full specs would probably help here :)

Alright i'll set it up that way. Don't have the time today since i have a term paper due tommorow.

System is:

P4 3.0C
P4C800 Delux. (I-875 Chipset ICH-4 SB with SATA via promise controller via PCI)
2x 512Mb Hyper-X DDR 443
R9800Pro
5 low speed case fans
Sound Blaster 5.1 live (my audigy2 was crap)
2x opticals
2x Raptors 32Gb v1's
1x WD Cavier 80Gb SE
480w Truepower - exactly what i had before

So, i'll just fire it up barebones and see if it can post.

Just a couple remarks:

1) if the WD 80GB happens to be on its own separate data cable, jumper it for Single Drive if it wasn't already (Single Drive is when the jumper is not on the pins at all)

2) try unplugging all 3-pin fan cables from the mobo except for your CPU-fan cable. I remember my Asus A7N8X Deluxe getting  if I had certain low-RPM fans plugged into it, and it wouldn't POST. Your Antec PSU's fan-monitoring cable is one of the suspects there. Long shot, but easy to test for.

Something I found works in the past is to remove the system memory, some mobo don't fire up at all if the memory is bad. Try none, you might get beeps, if you do try a single stick and then swap them to see if it works with either.

WOW really helpful mate :/

You bet it is. His computer is 85% destroyed. Much better to buy a new computer with a warranty and part out his old one. Save time and also have money in his pocket. Why would anyone want to work with a broken, blown out computer??? Don't sit here and give me your smarmy european attitude like you know better.

Don't bother replying to the trolls. ;)

OP: IIRC The green light on the MB is just to confirm it has power, it doesn't mean everythings OK.

I'll bet you'd want him to buy a new computer from CompUSA.

Yeah, and somehow "compusaguy" magically knows that it's 85% destroyed. He already basically said that he has no problem selling dead, or dying parts in the FS/FT forum. Hopefully it won't take the mod's too long to ban him.

I had a brand new Powerstream 600W blew out on me yesterday and good thing is everything else seems to work fine. I am surprise that you have a good Antec PSU and it did not have the short circuit protection to shut things down right away.
Sorry to hear that.

This is an "Enthusiast" forum, alot of us don't buy computers EVAR:) and some of us cut our teeth on working on broken blown out computers....and some more of us actually enjoy it, or need to keep our old crap running because we can't afford new crap :)

either help the guy or stfu.

Boilerplate-01:
. Common causes of failure to boot (no video, no beeps) assuming PSU isn't totally dead:
1- RAM, CPU and/or AGP video card not seated properly, a bent pin or corrosion.
2- Drive data cable on upside down or only on half the pins or shifted a pin or two (usually Floppy or Zip drives) - often the drive light will stay lit if this is the problem.
3- CMOS needs to be cleared (AC power must usually be disconnected or attempts to clear CMOS may fail) Unless your mobo does not use a power-off CMOS clear - check your mobo manual for specific info.
4- On some new mobos there is a CPU protection feature (esp. on Asus/Asrock Athlon/Socket A mobos) that will not allow the system to start if there is no fan (or a fan without a working speed sensor wire) connected to the fan power connector on the mobo (specifically marked "CPU Fan"). If you tried to start your machine without a fan properly connected, you have to attach a proper and working fan and clear the CMOS before it will boot.
