Hello!

Trying to help a friend with his computer.

His old PSU died so he went and bought a new one.
The new one died after he turned off the computer for the first time.
Now when you try and push the power button nothing at all happen, no sound or lights.

I just tried plugging in my own PSU and it worked, but I didn't want to leave it on so I turned it off instantly.

What could be the problem? The PSU have more watts than needed. The latest PSU was of the brand "Ace".

Appreciate help! Thanks!

Just because that label boasts "X" Watts doesn't mean it can actually do it. This is the price you pay when you buy some cheap ass PSU. High quality units don't have this problem.

The simple answer is you bought a cheap ass PSU so it died when it couldn't handle the load. I'm surprised it didn't take everything else with it.

Watts are unimportant in the long run. A VERY beefy computer can consume about 300-400W. Not only that, but PSU Manufactures have ways of boasting ratings that are higher then what they really are.

PSU's are one area where brandname is pretty darn important. Their may be good PSU's out of the well established brands, but you run the risk of the all too frequent corner cuts that happen very often.

Antec, Ernmax, Corsiar, and I believe Sparkle (is that right?) are some good brands to look at. If you are spending less the $50 on a PSU it is probably of questionable value.

Well I guess you can say OP's friend got a raw deal after all! AHUAHUAHUHAUHAUh

If hes cheap tell your friend to buy an Earthwatts

Friends don't let friends buy cheap PSU's

I remember having this problem when i first built my pc four years ago. I didn't know any better and bought a PSU because it said 550w. I only paid $40 for it. When I ran the pc it turned off and would not turn on as you described. I tried 2 more of these PSU before i could figure out what that the PSU were not TRUE POWER.
