psu connection question

i just bought a antec smart power 2.0 psu and it has a 24pin connection and an extra 4 pin connection
do i just hook up the 24 pin by itself or both
 
There should be two different spots on the motherboard for connections to the powersupply. Use both.
 
i was wondering because my previous power supply only had a 20 pin connection and a 4 pin connection so i used both, i just didnt know if the 4 pin was to make up for the missing 4 on the 20 pin
 
No, the 4pin connector is to power the CPU only. If you have it, use it. The extra lines in the 24-pin mainly provides extra power for the card slots.
