PSU and Sony Vaio

Hey everyone, I'm new.

Anyway, I wanna know how much does it affect a video card's performance if you have less than the recomended powersupply for it? I have an ATI X800 XL and it needs at least 300w, but my Sony Vaio is at least 268w.

Which leads me to my next question. Is it possible to put a different power supply in a Vaio? I heard you can't from a friend of mine, but I wanna hear what you guys think.

Any info would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

hey jinhideo...welcome to atgh

first off, the x800xl is what i'm running now and it's flippin sweet, great price to performance ratio

for power supply minimums.... i'd take it very seriously. You may even do damage to your vid card if it's not getting enough power.....like if the fan isn't spinning fast enough, and that card gets real hot

I havent' had any personal experience w/ vaio desktops but I hear that sony really likes to use proprietary parts....like THIS power supply will only work with THIS motherboard. The only way to tell is to just pop it open and take a gander at the power supply plug on the mobo. Chances are though that it's some unique proprieatry deal. Good luck.

oh okay. thanks a lot man. i really appreciate it. =)

yeah, i've looked at the psu. it looks like any other psu. but then again, i don't know too much about power supplies.

*sigh*...friggin sony....
