PSU and possible static?

While my computer was on I touched the PSU on the side to wipe off some dust and the whole computer went off. I thought maybe I blew the PSU so I unplugged the motherboard connector and shorted the green wire with a black wire using a paper clip to self start the PSU. To my surprise the PSU started. So I thought I blew the MB. I plugged the MB connector back in and I powered on the computer and it started. I don't know what happened. All I can think of was static, but I didn't shock the PSU when I touched it. Is there something I should be worried about? I don't have a grounded wall outlet and I can't fix that.


That will be the last time I put my mitts in a running computer. :whiste:

This scares me.... especially on a 500W psu..

Lucky = You have no problems and everything is peachy.
Unlucky = The $$ you've spent is wasted when components die.

then stick with a computer more on the lines of power economy.

I wouldnt build a PC with a PSU larger then 90W without a ground, which u can easily do on ITX systems using a i3.

Heres the problem with your 500W.
If you dont have a stable ground... chances are your board will use your case as a ground.
And well, i dont know if u ever built a case which was improperly grounded... but... its not nice...

I can't afford a $1000 visit from an electrician to wire in ground. Not only that but I live in a tri-level and the computer is in the basement which will be a PITA to wire ground into.

My brother lives in an apartment that is old and doesn't have a grounded wall outlet and he is running a 850 watt PSU and a UPS. He gets brownouts that last a minute so the UPS has saved him and it works with no ground.
