PSU - 2x12V@ 12-18A or 1x12V @ 22-28A?

i know my current rig in sig is about as far as i can go with the 350W p/s, and i would like to get a new psu that is native 24 pin for my next board, maybe x2, etc. is it better to have a psu with 2 12V rails or 1 12V at a much higher A since the 12V rails don't combine? total would be 370-500W

i would like to push my current rig to 3.2-3.4 if my cooling allows so i know i will need some good quality juice and i just don't want to try to push my 350W too much as i know it is already pushed.

so which way is better?

thanks in advance 🙂

I'd say it depends on which manf. your looking at.. Personally I'd stick in the 480-550w range and w/ a major proven brand. ie. Antec, Enermax, Zippy, PC Power & Cooling, Seasonic.

Also it depends on how much stuff you will have in your system .. ATI or Nividia, SLI, 2-4 hd's, fans, etc.

What would be your future config ?

Regards,
Jose

You forgot Fortron. In general two 12volt rails are better than one. The majority of "SLI Ready" psus are dual 12Volt. I would go with a dual 12v myself as well, as they tend to be more stable and have less voltage fluctuations.

it is for the rig in my sig and the future looks like x2 but probably not sli, i would just get a 6800gt or something equivalent. i would definately go with a major manf - enermax, fortron, antec, etc but want to stay ~$60.

The single/split rail topic has been chewed apart here already. Search is your friend. 😉
Actually a single +12V rail is far more flexible than two (split rail is for winps [sic]). An excellent choice is the Sparkle FSP550-60PLG... The only valid argument for split rail in PCs is safety - all else is hogwash!
