Yes... I know - there are other DC projects out there. but -- (this is where I try to justify my whiny call for help)

Having held 7th place for some time, and we're actually about to overtake ARS, we have a HUGE PROBLEM coming our way - known as US-Distributed. (this is where the "omigod we're about to be overtaken emotion gets inserted")

They're gaining a bunch of new participants, and pumping out a TON of particles. The race is on, and they're gaining. I can only put out so much work... I'm about maxed out for computing cycles. (this is where you feel sorry for me, and say "sure... I can spare a little for the team.")

Many thanks to our new members, and some old ones that have cranked up again! :beer: 😀 (this is where our teammates feel all "pumped up" and are motivated to go out and get MORE cycles!) 😉

Any spare cycles that can be found, will have a loving home. DPAD is well-behaved, and easy to use!
The stats are updated often, and well. There are some really hot races starting to develop - and it AIN'T OVER YET! 😉 (this is where the "rah-rah" I'm all pumped-up-to-go-whoop-some-arse-in-DPAD emotion takes over) ... and you click on This link and join up! 😉

Anything you can add will be better than not adding it at all. Of course, you have to personally weigh up the benifits if the machine is particularly old (such as a original Pentium etc) compared to the power it will use. However, of course, anything you can add will be much appreciated 🙂 Every little helps 🙂

A. A running machine... and a willing spirit?

Seriously - Just any Windoze machine should do the trick. Every WU is one more than we had before! This is a David/Goliath scenario... just like we like 'em here! 😀

Many thanks to those beginning... and re-beginning!

Here's the short version of how to get started.

1. Create a directory called "Muon"
2. Download this zip file to your muon directory
3. Unzip the above file
4. Copy this text, and paste into a file named "results.dat"
5. Open notepad, enter "[TA]Username" - where "Username" is YOU!
6. Save above file as "user.txt"
7. Invoke "muon1.exe" (graphical version) or "muon1_background" (background mode) or "muon1_cmdline" (DOS window)

That's it. You're running. The client will create a file called "results.txt" - this is what will be sent to the server upon upload of results. You may choose to wait until it gets to 100Kb in size - then it will dump (using FTP) on its own, or you can use manual upload. In any event - you'll need to have at least 10kb in results.txt in order to dump.

The only other thing is making an adjustment to "config.txt" if you have multiple processors.

Pretty easy! 😀
 
As already mentioned ,I'll be switching over a little power after S@H1 ends🙂................& I suspect a few others will be in the same boat too😉.Looks like S@H1 could end early February
 
Hey DanC...just a question related towards "future" developments if they come about 😉

In the config.txt file would i set processes to 2 for my P4 HT machine?

[edit] Also would it be better to allow systems to churn data on their own after downloading the best500 file or should i get the results.txt file from my various sytems on a weekly basis and construct a new best 500 file? As you said the more rechecks the better and the higher the scores and muon transfer values.

Perhaps the old crew can get together again after Seti ends and use the FTP method that worked so superbly 😀

That's correct. Just indicate the number of threads - and the client does the rest! 🙂

My recommendation is to optimize your "bestxxx" file as often as is practical. I use MuonMonitor
for it. You can merge result files, delete dupes, and generate a new "bestxxx" easily. It's a great tool!

I'm all for sharing stats - but Stephen has been pretty good about keeping the best500 stocked with the latest high scores... that's the reason we were doing the team FTP - because the high scores weren't being published. For this round - it won't be necessary... but there's Ver 5. coming soon! 🙂 I don't know if we'll get bestxxx, but we can sure make our own if need be! 😉
 
I am really anxiously awaiting Ver. 5!!!!!

i cannot wait to try out DPAD again..it was so simple and so carefree..the fact that the client LEARNS from itself so there are no real "WU's" to get and the such..i love it!

and of course the project's goals 😀

You're WAY beyond what I've messed with on that one. I just run it (on lots of machines) 😉

The only thing I get creative with is just keeping my results.dat updated.

US-Distributed just knocked off another team. We're NEXT. 🙁

i was just thinking about everything. It appears that the Gen#1 just runs a random simulation while the rest actually use some sort of optimization in the design that has been proven to work to some extent. Some ppl i believe are using the optimizations to get higher values while not truly lettign the "random" design find the best route...

at least that's what i think that means 😕

You never answered my question on stats 😉
 
Lets see what my Main Rig can do... 🙂 (AthlonXP 2500+ @ 3200+)

Since we are so far ahead in SoB, I figure I could spare my cycles to another project.... just joined the DPad Team 🙂

Shouldn't results.dat be sampleresults.dat, cause everytime I run the client fot the first time, it downloads sampleresults.dat

I've never run it without a results.dat file... it MAY be the same. (but that's subject to verification)
If it does it automatically - then Stephen has slipped an upgrade in there I wasn't aware of. 😉

He does that sometimes. 🙂
 
Just did a little dump, and hopefully I'll be put on the TeAm's listing now. Never sent any results back in before, so thats why I might have not shown up on any pages.

We'll see 🙂

Everything is working great, I've got DPAD running on 11 pcs so far, I'll add more during the week. I've got SETI running on my faster pcs, but 11 slower pcs is better than no pcs at all...

Maybe I'll change all of them to DPAD when SETI1 ends...and if that happends...hold on tight Dorothy, cause Kansas is going bye bye!!!
 
I believe that the sample500 are only results that have been verified 5 times, so those high runs might have been the result of only 1 run which might mean something great or might mean a fluke in the model.

Also stephen does not only include the highest 500 muon values but instead mixes in a cornucopia of various values because one never knows just how the best particle design will come about....maybe 1 value changed to a sub_par run will make it the highest run...etc...
