PSP vs DS vs iPhone: Graphics

I've often wondered why PSP is so lacking in the game dept. I realize the DS has the stylus and it probably drew a lot of new ideas to it, but still...you'd think developers would go for both handhelds since they are so different.

DS outsold the PSP by about 2 to 1, and the PSP supposedly sells fewer games per unit sold.

If Sony had kept a solid marketing plan for PSP, it would have fared much better. Distractions like the UMD movies (crap) and PSP Go (crap again) really hurt the brand. If they had pushed the integration and PSO capabilities they have now, and made some really good halo titles (no, not "Halo") it could have been much bigger.

Nintendo really kept the DS marketed to what it was, a gaming device, and it has paid off.

If we're including the iPhone family then I suppose the iPhone 4, especially with it's beautiful screen and higher resolution, has the potentiol to, technically, make the best looking games.

This question goes beyond raw processing power I think. Its up to talented artist and designers to make a great looking game right? In my opinion Okami on Wii is a better looking game than a ton (read:not all!) of games released on the much more powerful X360 and PS3.

It's all subjective. 🙂

By specs alone the Galaxy S phones are the most powerful phones yet released with the best graphics chip but like you said it's all up to someone to take advantage of it.

zerocool pretty much answered it dead-on but you can't exactly count out the iphone either. I remember playing my friend's iphone and he buys all sorts of stuff. There are some pretty creative games with unique graphics out there. Also, that's probably one of the appeals of iphones, all those indie games put out by people.

Silent Hill Homecoming on the PSP has better graphics than anything I have seen on the DS or iphone. I would say from my experience the PSP is the best for realistic games and despite there being a lack of games, is it possible to hack the DS to play old school ROMS? Methinks not..

Yes, I am a Sony fanboy.. And IMO rightfully so... ()🙂

The title of the thread is "PSP vs DS vs iPhone: Graphics" so I passed on the other smartphones like the Galaxy S.

We could include the Galaxy S. The problem is there's not a lot of well polished games that aren't ports of iPhone games. Unless I'm totally wrong on that.

The iPhone 4 and it's derivatives definitely have the best graphics. Spiderman: Shattered Dimension and Mirror's Edge are two great examples. Keep in mind that the DS and PSP are five years old now. Mobile CPUs have made huge leaps. Comparing the iPhone to the PSP is like comparing the original Xbox to the 360.

The PSP is certainly the best looking true portable. It's a shame Sony butchered it so much, then never marketed it. They blame piracy. Realistically, I'd say less than 10% have jail broken their systems, and that's a very liberal estimate. Sony has just badly managed their portable division and failed to offer publishers enough incentive to release quality games on the platform.

PSP has the best graphics and library.

trollin...

DS has the best library... everyone already knows this...

most of these portables will be played by kids... MOST kids can't FUCKING READ,,

DS has a vast library of very little reading. 😀

I fuking hate the tiny screen, dsi xl is BARELY any better...
