WHAT_HOW is what I bet your asking yourself right now. Well here is how to do it!
You need:
DVD shrink
And this program here. Dont be scared when you done downloading it it will ask if you want english.
I tried using PSP video 9 and I always get errors and will not work. This one works perfectly for me.
Now take your movie and we need to shrink it. But first you need to set it up so it doesnt spilt the movie into 1gb chunks. So goto:
Edit
Preferences
Output files
Click off the check on Split vob into 1gb size chunks then hit ok
Now click on re-authur and select only the movie title and 2ch english (or your language)
After that select Compression Settings and click off automatic and select Custom
Grab the slider and bring it all the way down as far as it goes. AND YES it will make the video look off but really you will only notice it on a large screen not on the smaller PSP screen.
If you want to make it even smaller edit out the ending credits at this time as well if you can live without it.
Now Select back up.
Select Hard disk folder
Select your target folder where you want to put the movie
Click on Quality setting
Make sure to check on Perform deep analysis before back up to improve quality (this will take out alot of blocky squares)
Check on Compress video with high quality adaptive error compensation and select MAXIMUM sharpness.
Done with this part now hit ok and DONT mess with the computer. Every time I do the audio comes off for me. May not happen with your rig but if I dont mess with it it comes out perfect.
After it is done go into the folder and rename the vob the name of the video
Install the program I linked you to above (dont worry its free)
In the setup view select your language and near the end select Model:MP4, for PSP (Direct, renamed)
After that select the folder you wish this video to be put at.
If the video your just did is full screen select:
QVGA/29.97fps/QB4 Stereo/96kbps
If the video is wide screen select:
386x208/29.97fps/QB4 Stereo/96kbps
Drag the shrinked video into the program and wait awhile (again I dont reccomend using the computer till it is done). This is going to take atleast an hour or more depending on how long your movies are.
Once it is done hook up your PSP and you should have the video root video already on you PSP mem card so put the video onto your psp. If you dont have the mem card set up your going to need to do it or your just wasted your time
. If you need to make the root files on your stick read this here.
YOUR DONE! NOW why go through all of this. Well shrinking your video instead of just doing the dvd decripter and then PSP video 9 means you do not need a 1gb stick, they come out to under 400MB most of the time depending on the size of your video, and yet it doesnt look as good as the UMD disk videos it is SOOOOOOO much better looking then any other way I know of. The video will not be super blocky and really if your video isnt all that long it looks great. I did nemo, xmen 2, and Army of darkness all under 400MB before writing this up and it looks really really good. And yes it took a bit more time but now that you done it SAVE the moves you did to DVD so that you can put them on your psp for later viewing down the road. No real reason to delete it because if you ever want to watch it on the PSP again you will just need to pop in your dvd disk and drag it over. It only takes 10minutes from PC to PSP so why do all of this all over again. Plus the fact that they are small you can put several of your movies on one disk.
But dont be scared. I wrote it all out step by step so the slow can even do this if they follow what I wrote and if you do this please chime is an the size of your movies and how well you think my idea worked for you! PLEASE dont diss it if your shrinking a 3-4 hour movie shrinking it (like LOTR) and bitch it looks like crap. Keep in mind the larger the movie and the more you shrink it the more it may come out not as clear.
Other then that ENJOY! I spent 3 days figuring out the best compression and shrinkage to get the best looking movie without taking up much room at all
