PSP Homebrew questions

I recently wiped the dust off my psp and was able to downgrade it to 1.5 and then to a custom firmware. I am now able to run emulators and such on it.

I just downloaded a NES emulator (and before you go jumping down my throat) and a couple ROMs for games that I currently own.

I have a question about the PSX. I know that you can run an emulator for it but can't seem to find one that works well. Also, how do I play the PSX games on the PSP? I have a couple still: Resident Evil 2, Gran Turismo and such...I would prefer to download a rom or iso or whatever it is to run it in the emulator but I can't find them online anywhere. I have no idea how to rip the game from the original disc.

Sorry for all the n00bish questions but I just got into this the other day and have found a new life for my psp. Thanks in advance.

Again....I am not downloading anything that I do not currently own. I am not pirating or doing anything illegal since I own the game(s) I want to run on the psp.

so download popstation and convert the isos to eboots. from there I can just put it in the game dir and play from there?

is there a site online where i can get them in a ready to play format or is the iso-convert the only way?

there is but it is a fast way for you to get banned on these forums

Visit the forums over at psp-hacks.com and go to the Hacks section. There are tutorials on how to convert the PSX ISO as well as GUI programs that will take care of it, the best one being by Zingaburga (I think that's his name.) There are many other helpful threads over there so check it out.

update:

i was able to download an eboot for Gran Turismo 2 (which I own) but the file(s) is rather large (500mb+). Is there anyway that it can be compressed or anything?

It's a CD image ... it's going to be around 600Mb or so.

And no you cannot compress it.

thanks. do the psx games come in any other formats then the eboots? say like a rom?

It depends what is on the disc. Just use compression level 9, should come out to about 300-500 depending on the game.

I forget what popstation I use, but it's a GUI version of it...I can compress my CDs down, usually by a couple hundred MBs. I think I got FF tactics to less than 300mb, close to 200mb.

I use CDRwin (I think) to rip my PSX games, and I tell it to ignore errors (part of how PSX cds are burned/encoded), and then use Popstation to convert it.

Some popstations allow you to customize the background, boot screen, etc for each PSX game you turn into an eboot and stuff.

There's guides online you can find...

an iso?

hmm....so all these psx eboots are going to be around 500mb+?

Some games are really small, such as Vagrant Stories (~100MB) after it gets compressed. Also, if you rip out music then many games are around the 20MB mark. This is because the music does not get compressed.
