This is NOT about piracy, this is about homebrew apps and games.

It still violates the DMCA in the US.

No person shall manufacture, import, offer to the public, provide, or otherwise traffic in any technology, product, service, device, component, or part thereof, that is primarily designed or produced for the purpose of circumventing a technological measure that effectively controls access to a work protected under this title.

Primarily designed clause protects a loader if it does not have ISO support. Homebrew would also be protected under the compatability clause.

Besides I don't believe this is Illegal. The same way emulators are NOT illegal, the reason why roms are not destributed with emulators.

So we can play homebrew on our PSPs..

Like MAME & other emulators.. Just look what homebrew did for the Xbox (XBMC for example)

i dont really think it did anything for the xbox, all it did was make a market for peopel to sell you overpriced chipping kits, violate your warrenty and make it so you couldent use XBL

i paid $30 for my chip and it took 20 mins to install, my xbox has been working flawless since May 2002 when XBox modchips first came out and i installed my first 28 wire modchip, and i still play on xbox live almost every day.

get a clue.

Do you realize downloaded roms are still illegal, even if you own the game? I'm not saying you really care or should, but throwing that line in a post is irrelavent.

How so? It'd be considered a personal back up.... unless it's part of your american DMCA BS of a law/act... then that's just ridiculous...

I hate to throw a wrench in this, but cracking the firmware violated the DMCA. I fvcking hate that law...

I wasn't saying you care or should care. I never said you shouldn't have done that or that it was wrong. I was simply stating that downloading roms in the US is illegal in case someone did care.

Can I Download a Nintendo ROM from the Internet if I Already Own the Authentic Game?

There is a good deal of misinformation on the Internet regarding the backup/archival copy exception. It is not a "second copy" rule and is often mistakenly cited for the proposition that if you have one lawful copy of a copyrighted work, you are entitled to have a second copy of the copyrighted work even if that second copy is an infringing copy. The backup/archival copy exception is a very narrow limitation relating to a copy being made by the rightful owner of an authentic game to ensure he or she has one in the event of damage or destruction of the authentic. Therefore, whether you have an authentic game or not, or whether you have possession of a Nintendo ROM for a limited amount of time, i.e. 24 hours, it is illegal to download and play a Nintendo ROM from the Internet.

I'd say this is a good step towards that.
