I bought Folk Lore for $29 at Walmart but have been demo'ing games off of the Play Station Network. So far, the games I have been trying were ones I read reviews on and were of interest to me. I'm not much into FPS/Army/Sports games. Most of the games were what I expected, usually in a good way. One game that got a high rating that I didn't care for was Devil May Cry 4. The character movement and camera angle were not to my liking and the demon blood things were just kind of creepy. Maybe you have to be into that Japanese series to like it.
Another demo I tried was Uncharted: Drakes Fortune. The demo looked and played pretty well, the graphics were very nice and the general controls seemed good. But, one frustrating thing for me was aiming the gun to shoot the pirates. Aiming was constantly and exercise in frustration, nudging the control right then left then up, then down, always going to far to one side of the target or the other. With the constant stream of bad guys, if I can't get this down, the game would become a major annoyance. This is where having a Wimote would be great. I could simply aim at the bad guy like I had a real gun and do way better. Is there a better way to do this, otherwise I may reconsider an otherwise very highly rated game.
I'll be trying some other demo's in the coming days. Having these available via PSN is a nice feature!
Heavenly Sword was another game I demo's and wow, the fighting moves looks so much more fluid and realistic than other fighting games I've seen. Based on the demo, I hunted for a good deal and picked it up at Block Buster use for $35, and played though the opening sequences last night. So far the game is gorgeous and fun to play. I got to the first time you play Kai and again, aiming the crossbow was difficult, just like aiming the gun in Uncharted. I guess I"m going to have to get this down but damn, I wish I had a Wimote at times like this.
I also demo'd Star Dust. What can I say, its a very pretty modernized version of good old Asteroids. I think the cost if about ten dollars so that is probably worth it for a little shoot'em up fun when you don't feel like sitting down for a long game session.
I've downloaded some other games but will have to try them in the coming days. The down loads from PSN are generally between 500mb and 1gb in size; some are larger. Over my FIOS 10mbps service (but using a wireless connection) the games take between 5 and 15 minutes to download usually. There are quite a few titles to try.
