Specialized Crossroads XC Expert

I know it's not an uber road bike or a beefy mountain bike, but I grew up with a Crossroads hybrid in the early 90's and LOVED it. I just dropped by Bike Source at lunch and picked it up. At first I was just killing time but the salesman offered to let me take it out for a spin. I went about 5ft. before I said to tune her up and make her pretty.

We're going on vacation in a few weeks and this baby is coming along for the ride!

I got out the door for just under $1,000. The bike was $750. I also got a nice rack for the car (which will also work on my wife's minivan), waterbottles/cages, etc.

You definitely have to enjoy bikeriding to plop this kind of bling down, but I love it. On top of that, it's very nostalgic for me. Both of my parents are deceased and this takes me back to a nice time. They got me this very same bike when I turned 15 and I rode the piss out of it EVERYWHERE until I moved out on my own 5 years later.

Get standard dropout handlebars and do cyclocross.
 
I took it out for about an hour last night... worth every penny!!!

Wife has yet to ask "how much" 😀 .
