PSA: You don't have to be rich to drive a "luxury car"

Just because a car once had a sticker price of nearly $50,000 doesn't mean it's still a $50,000 car 7 years later. Some cars depreciate a lot faster than others... and you can buy one for less than a brand new Civic.
I hate when people assume things just because of the brand of car I drive.

Ya I think it would be a good idea to provide more information. What car, what year, how many miles when you bought it, and at what price?

Thanks.

Kinda like the $70,000 Audi A8's that can be had in 5 years for under $20,000.

:)

Exactly my point.. I've posted what I drive before but that's not the point.. it doesn't matter if it's an Audi, BMW, Benz, Caddy, etc... you can buy any of those for less than an oh-so-common Civic. It just annoys me when people like to make assumptions because of it.

My uncle picked up an '83 Jaguar XJ6 for $3000, it only needed $2000 worth of work (valve job) to make it smog. Two years later when it came up for smog again, it needed another $3000 (another valve job...) to make it smog. So he traded it for a cow. (literally)

Nice car if you plan on spending $2000/year on maintenance :)

Not if you are an UAW janitor for GM, making about 100K a year (with OT and all) from GM.

I am not kidding, that guy showed me his pay stub and I almost fell out of the chair.

And people wonder why cars are so expensive. Damn unions.

Actually about 25% of a new cars price is advertising
they all say they have to do it though or they just don't sell.

'what do you do to afford stuff like that man?' 'what? it costs less than a new civic.'

Well woopy doo I guess you enlightened us on a fact well known. Here in the States I think, you can judge a person at best on the value of their home to know if they're "rich" as people lease/and take out loans for everything and buy nothing straight up...

Yikes. I'd think they'd sell more cars by word of mouth if they were 25% cheaper than they sell now, having spent that cash.

Yeah I have a friend that makes about $28k per year and drives a beat ass 92 Cavalier. However, he also owns a very nice 85 Lotus Esprit. He only paid something like $13k for it, but people think he's big bucks when he drives it.
