Actually, my dad got that computer from my uncle. The only thing I ever did to it was adding a dvd burner for him. He's calling me because I work in the computer field. :(

He installed something called Bitcomet and started to download European cinemas, one thing leads to another; he starts to "clean" up the
hard drive to free some space.

Instead of doing it from the "download" directory, He started from the freaking windows directory.

I guess the only way to fix his "Generic Host Process for Win32 Service" error that shows up every few minutes is to re-install Windows. :|

Yup, so true. Then again, my parents said that as long as they are paying for any of my college, I am their tech support. *sigh*

Yeah, but considering my parents paid for me to take all of my certs and provided food and shelter for 18 years, I consider it interest on their investment. Tonight I'll be doing data recovery, and a new OS install as their primary HDD failed this afternoon. Thankfully they've been my guinea pigs for some backup software that I developed for my business so I have a snapshot from 3/01 :D

Tell him that you just got cancer from being at your comptuer too much and are too faint from the chemo to talk right then...I guarrentee you he will never mention it again.

All joking aside, this is why I never charge family. that way they feel like they owe me and not that they should get their money's worth, so they are much more hestiant to ask for favors.

Oh I do owe them for putting me thru college.

But he's going to be the one who will move all the "European artistic films" to another location before I erase his local drive and reinstall Windows.

Well...the way I see it is that if I don't build them one, I'm their tech support anyway, so I might as well build it for them so they have a solid, stable and reliable system so that there is less for me to have to do.

Couldn't you use the Windows disc to replace the system files only?

On the bright side, I rather have this "problem" than being born in the ghetto.

I don't know what you're talking about, I manage IT projects, so my technical knowledge is limited.

Well, at least you're seeing the light here. :)

Now stop whining and give your parents whatever help and time they need.
