Please forgive the bad spelling and grammar.
Ok, so I know most of you have heard that there will be a shortage of 360 at launch. Well, it's true. This is what I know.
The way we had it set up before was pre-orders are split up into 3-4 shipment allotments. Depending on how late you pre-ordered your 360, you may get it on launch day or few days, and up to a week later. This is because not only can all the systems not be shipped at the same time, it's also because the stores can not handle that many systems and people at the same time. We would be overwhelmed by it.
So the shipments are sent in four allotments about 3-5 days apart (guessing). So you should find out NOW what allotment you are in. Even if you think you pre-ordered it early, you may not get it opening day.
Now, this is what I found out just a few days ago.
For the first shipment, we had around 60-70 (guessing) $399 Xbox360 on pre-order.
We will be getting Thirtytwo in. Thats 32.
So now we have to wait and find out how the guy's higher up will have us handle this. That being said, I don't want you to panic and go down to your GameStop and start yelling at the guys that work there. We had NO IDEA this was going to happen, I don't even think Gamestop saw this coming. We are all in shock and running around screaming trying to think of what to tell people when they find out and ask what the hell is going on.
My boss with have a conference call with our DM some time this week and I will let you guys know what the word is.
Don't start freaking out about this, we at gamestop are doing that enough to take care of everyone.
Just sit tight and wait to see what is going to happen. You WILL get your Xbox, We just don't know how soon.
**Update: So for those who care, Pretty much what is going to happen is the shipments are going to be split (So 4 shipments become 8) and the systems will be given out in the order that they were paid for. (i.e. If you were the first to pre order you will get it first, if 2nd then you get it next and so on). We will be giving people a call to let them know that they can, or, can not pick up their system.
But knowing how people can be, I'm sure there will be a group of people that will still want their system. Either from not getting the phone call or just being pissed off and want to see if they can scream loud enough to get one. Should be fun.
As for the bit of drama in my post (the 'please' part, which I took out), the if because you really have no idea what it's like when we have a big launch like this and some thing bad happens. Things can get out of hand.
You guy's either know that it's Microsoft's fault, or don't care. I'm cool with that, thats not what would be the problem. It's the average Joe or Mom & Dad that would get mad at US thinking it was GameStops fault and start throwing a fit. And don't get me started on the fan boys.
Crap, when we first heard about this we started having visions of riots breaking out on midnight when people found out that they wouldn't get their Xbox. We are still going to have cops there just in case.
Also, I don't have a 360 on pre-order. nor will I be getting one this year. So all of you thinking that I was freaking out because I wouldn't be getting mine; your wrong. Sorry.
