This is such a PITA, there is no windows VNC client( tightvnc, VNC-viewer, RealVNC, and the rest) that can connect to a VNC server on linux, because of lacking the required encryption protocol, which now is on by default.
What needs to be done is, at the user level on the linux box in question, you need to type: gsettings set org.gnome.Vino require-encryption false
Then, all windows VNC clients can work once again.
NOTE, obviously, this is meant to only work on a secured LAN system only.
Now, if only people using google/bing/whatever will find this info, instead of calling in for help! /me grumbles.
