Long pauses (2-4 minutes long) give the interviewer the chance to ponder the meaning of life.

- I used to know this one girl who got so nervous during interviews that there would be atleast 2-3 pauses during a 30 min interview.

The public a DEMANDS more info about the intercourse offer and maybe even :camera:s?

Wow. Relax... *Lifts Cap'n&Coke*

One of the "trick" questions led to the offer.

There is a candy dish in each interview room. One manager likes to ask candidates, "Without using your hands, how would you get that candy dish off the table."

Said candidate's response was (in a husky voice), "Well, I would use my mouth. Or other body parts. I'll let you use your imagination..." and it went on from there. We were stunned.

Just out of curiousity - before you called these people in for an interview, did you actually look at their resume for qualifications/spelling issues/errors? Or was this a 2 day open interview session? (Which IMO, always attracts the wrong people, as seen here if it was)

I work in IT and I *had* to hang up on a customer recently. Guy did something really dumb (he was falling for a scam) and he accidentally replied to a spam alert that came to our ticket system instead of to the con artist. When someone sent a notice that it was fraud, he blew up. I didn't think to hangup but one of my coworkers did it. Nobody has to take verbal abuse like that.

Candidate being interviewed by my team today was from Switzerland. The infamous line:

"Well, in Switzerland if you're beautiful you usually just get the job, so I'm not used to having to interview like this."

I work in Recruiting, so I hear all the best stories.

There really isn't one. It's all about thinking about a brand new problem without having any time to prepare. The thought process and the way the problem is solved is what we're looking for.

How would you respond if I said "I'd ask you to pick it up for me"? ;)

kick the table
ask one of you to move that for me
use my indiana jones bull-whip
slide a piece of paper under the dish, and move it off with that.

that is a really dumb question. I might have to answer something like "I'D JUMP UP ON THE DESK AND KICK IT INTO YOUR FRICKEN HEAD" or something.

LoL, yeah we do panel interviews. One manager (or director), one senior to supervisor, one grunt.

The situation is: Yesterday was scheduled interviews provided by headhunters. Today, tomorrow, and Sat, are "Open House". Anybody can walk in and present a resume. We do have screeners up front, one HR person and one supervisor, so you have to at least have SOME game to get into the interview. She had some help desk experience, but she didn't cut it. Though any of us would have gladly nailed her to the wall. Repeatedly. With relish. ;)

One candidate worked supporting ships for Northrup. She said she worked with ships. The manager in the interview: "What is ships?" Candidate: "Ummm.... Like.... Ships?" Manager: "Oh, like boats?"

We're all WTF? What planet did you come from, Dune? Dilbert PHB moment if I'd ever seen one... :D

i had an interviewee show up 4 hours late...no call or anything

he still expected an interview
he said it wasn't fair that i wasn't going to interview him anymore

i also interviewed an older guy (i was 22 at the time...this guy was 50ish)
He poked fun at me and said he's been programming since i was in diapers
he also asked if i call my daddy to help make decisions

needless to say i didn't need any help deciding to NOT hire this guy
