PSA: We can have a difference of opinion, and nobody has to be offended.

My ma thinks reading on the toilet is silly. I said that I enjoy the peace, quiet, and bio-relaxing. Her response: oh sorry, no offence.

wtf.

"OMFGWTF we will teh WAR over toilet reading!!"

Edit: My point isn't about enjoying toilet time; it's about having differing opinions and accepting that without the smug sence of superiority.

just as long as you're not talking to me from on the can i don't care what you do in there.

For the people that you must say this to, it will do no difference.

For the people where it would do a difference, there is no need to say it, so in the end it still does no difference.

As I have said once before. I like to spend the least amount of time possible in there doing that. Let's get it on, get it over with, and break out😉

I didn't detect any smug sense of superiority in what you wrote that she said. 😕

The problem is a particularly young, stupid and/or trollish member of the majority opinion always calls the dissenters trolls, and it snowballs from there. It's a universally recognized stage in a flamewar.

What I mean is, we can do without that feeling that "oh, because we don't agree- one of us is better, and since I brought it up, it must be me. Oh wait 'no offence', I didn't mean to propose I'm better than you."

I think we say "no offence" after relizing two points of view aren't the same because we instinctively (and maybe subconciously) trash or belittle any other viewpoint besides our own, yet we don't want to look like the bigots we really are.

Edit: I can't think of a reason why else someone would be afraid of offending someone with a different opinion. It's really senceless.

"I just don't know why people like vanilla ice cream."

"I like vanilla ice cream."

"Oh sorry, no offence."

wtf. It's just a taste or preferance or opinion. It's not as if I said something nasty about your heritage. "I just think italians smell funny." Now THAT might deserve a "Sorry, no offence" to excuse such a comment.
