A few weeks ago, it was really nice out, so I parked my beater and pulled the Trans Am out of storage. I get it up here, and notice that my gas mileage is terrible. I mean, I'm getting about 130 miles to a tank of premium (about 10 MPG) but I don't notice anything different from when I parked it, performance wise. This goes on for the past couple weeks, I'm tearing my hair out trying to find out what's wrong with my car.
I get in this morning, and turn on the ignition. I happen to glance at the fuel gauge, and the needle drops from 3/4 to 1/4 of a tank in the space of two seconds :|. That's right folks, some ass hole has been siphoning my gas in the middle of the night. Why my car is being targeted, I don't know for sure - I think he must be looking for cars that would likely have premium in the tank. I feel like an idiot for not catching it sooner. Locking gas cap goes on today.
Moral of the story...with gas prices getting where they are, a locking gas cap is probably a pretty good investment. And pay attention to your gas mileage!
