PSA - Ultraviolet is terrible

When it came out in the theater, Ultraviolet looked interesting from the trailers. I thought to myself at the time that it didn't look good enough to spend $10 on to see, but I'd probably spend the $4.75 to rent it once it's out on DVD.

So I rented it and it was a huge waste of $4.75. The movie is terrible and a complete waste of 90 minutes. The opening sequence isn't bad, but after that that it slows to a snail's pace and becomes very confusing. At about 30 minutes, I was ready to turn it off, but I pushed through the boredom. After an hour, I was just counting down the time until it was over. The last fight with the villian has a cool setup, but the majority of it takes place in complete darkness and all you can see is their swords, so it's confusing as well.

In short, do not waste your time with this movie. It's so bad, it's not even funny in a MST3K kind of way. I'd rather watch the entire LOTR triology done in mime than this abomination of a movie.

You poor bastard, I would have walked out if I saw it in the theater. I'd have spent the rest of evening at the ticket window warning other people about it.

I never read a review of the movie, but I wish I had now. I'd have saved myself $4.75 and 90 minutes.

The best part of that movie was the Bacardi commercial before the movie.

I have seen a few stinkers at the movies recently but I usually don't count Ultraviolet among them, mainly because I have erased it from my memory.

I just watched this the other night and I didn't really think it was as bad as people made it out to be. I'm not saying it was good, but it wasn't horrible. Dialogue was pretty bad and all, but it at least kept me interested the whole time. Had a good style to it although most of the fight scenes were underwhelming.

Since I have a weakness for bad sci-fi/fantasy movies, I'd rank Ultraviolet above Bloodrayne (which I also didn't think was completely horrible), and both above Aeon Flux, which I did think was pretty bad.

they pale in comparison....this movie hurts to watch, no real plot line to follow, just pretty pictures, and Milla saying "i am good at killing, that's what i do" again and again. and if you are a fan of Milla i guess you can bare to watch it. some nice scenes (visually).

Awww... I was gonna rent the movie cause it's made by the same guy who made "Equilibrium" which is just an awesome movie. Oh well, I'm prolly still gonna give it a rent.

I got a very distinct "Equilibrium" vibe from the movie, but Equilibrium is much better. At least you can understand the plot. I still don't understand Ultraviolet.

Seriously, don't waste your time with it. Watch Equilibrium again.

Equilibrium is one of my favorite action movie. My biggest complaint is that the ending was too short/hurried. The "faceoff" with Diggs should have been much more elaborate.

Ultraviolet, done by the same guy, is without a doubt a piece of dog dung. If there was any story or plot, I completely missed it. The action (which is it's biggest selling point) left a lot to be desired. They used way too many cheap, frenetic camara shots as if to cover the actress lack of dexterity to perform her stunts. That is not Milla's fault, though. We've seen her much more effective in 5th Element and Resident Evil 1&2. I had a hard time suspending my disbelief. My biggest gripe, however, is the overall environmental effect. Whatever stylistic crap he's trying to pull off, it left me detached from the whole experience. The ultra glare used throughout was really bothersome and made it seem completely computerized & artificial (which it is).

Aeon Flux I found was not as bad as people say, maybe because of my low expectation. It certainly is much better than Ultraviolet. The story/plot was weird as hell but never having kept up with the original anime I was kept guessing. It at least kept my interest throughout the film.

Bloodrayne. Can't comment but I was told to avoid it like the plague.

A few people now have said they didn't understand the story/plot or there wasn't one. Huh? It has a pretty well spelled out plot. It's not exactly a good plot, or a cohesive plot, but it does have one and its hard to really miss it.

I have come to the realization that every single movie with a strong, female "action oriented" lead has sucked. Even the best ones, like Resident Evil, have been rather mediocre.

Elektra
Catwoman
Bloodrayne
Aeon Flux
Ultraviolet

And that is just in the last couple years.

If you like watching very CGI like stuff it has some ok stuff in the begining. Other than that it's complete crap.

A lot of the CG was halfassed, it wasn't that great.
