You are piloting 1 1/2 tons of metal down the road, could you at least show some respect for others by paying attention to what the hell you're doing?

I rode my bike to work this morning (Carbon Fiber LOOK KG461 road bike with Campy Chorus 10spd), as I do a coupe times a week, and I'm traveling down a road that is 40mph, 2 lanes in each direction with a center turn lane and ample bike lanes on each side. Anyway, I'm cruising through here at about 35mph (according to my computer) on a slight downhill when this woman pulls out from the opposite side of the road. She crosses the two northbound lanes, crosses the center turn lane, goes across the two southbound lanes and proceeds to cut me off because she's turning onto another side street.

Fortunately, I watched her pull out and as we came closer together I had the foresight to start braking and sure enough, she cuts right in front of me going at least half my speed. I had to swerve around her to avoid hitting her dumbass. I'm certain she never even saw me...

LOL

I think if you are on a bicycle, you can't call them "cagers".

But, I feel ya.

Go spend some time on Bikeforums.com. It's probably the most common used term for someone driving a car over there.

:thumbsup: She probably wouldn't have seen the Elise either...it's not much larger than a bicycle. I think that's why they paint them those bright colors. So the soccer moms in the SUVs can see them. ;)

Tis' why I'm afraid of riding road. :( Some people have no regards for the safety of a cyclist on the roadways.

Never been there, I will check it out. Used to hang out on MTBR's forums when I was able to ride. The only time I have heard the term "cagers" is from people who ride motorcycles. Just had a funny mental image of you on a bicycle two sizes too small decked out in harley leather with a bullet helmet yelling at cagers :p

And unfortunately for Jules, Queen's Bicycle Race would've come on the radio a couple minutes before that incident :p.

I was waiting at a pedestrian crossing last night. The traffic lights flashed amber to indicate we'd get the green soon. At that point, a guy starts running across the crossing, pulling his kid by the hand. The crossing light was also flashing so he was in the wrong, especially with a young kid in tow (not a brilliant example to set). The girl leading the queue on the other side of the road is staring down at something, maybe her phone, realises the lights are doing something or other and starts accelerating towards them. The guy realised at the last second and sprinted the last bit. They were an inch from getting run over.

The girl's reaction was amazing, like she'd just come out of a coma, then she pulled a face as if it was their fault. She gets a big fat

Horns and bells weigh too much. Besides, she probably had the radio on and wouldn't have heard it anyway. You'd need a foghorn to get through to some of the jackasses I see behind the wheel.

Nah, I would say 99% of the time I never have any trouble. I think I had another run-in with a cager last May (I almost got doored) but most of the time it's no problem. Besides, two encounters in 1 year and almost 3k miles ridden isn't bad and because I was paying attention I was able to avoid one of them (I got lucky with the door...just plain dumb luck).

I knew of a guy who would carry an airhorn in his back jersey pocket. Works great for people who cut you off and dogs HATE it.

Almost got side swiped this morning by some lady in a minivan. It was a two lane right turn. I was on the outside and she was on the inside. We made the turn at the same time but instead of staying on the inside lane after the turn she swings right out to mine. I had a feeling she was going to do this so I was prepared and was able to slow down. She was totally oblivious to what just happened.
