If any of you in the B-ham area area feeling sporty, there's a really good MTB race just south of you in Oak Mountain State Park this Sunday June 6. My race (Sport Men 30-34) goes off at 10am, and I should be arriving early that morning so I can register and warm up a bit.

You don't have to be Joe Racer Guy to come out and compete. There is a Beginner class for both men and women that's specifically for new/casual riders. $5 will get you a one-day license to race.

Race web site here.

Race flyer with course info, start times, etc here (pdf)

PM me or reply here if any of you can make it. I'll be leaving Atlanta early Sunday am if any locals want to carpool to the race. :)

I'm sure there are a crapload of races near you throughout the year. You need to buy a bike now anyway if you're going to be a "real" Davis resident. :p

I'm in Tupelo, MS (about 2 hours NW of Birmingham), but that's a little far to watch a bike race. If I did come, would you be my new best buddy?

Race went pretty well. My crappy roadie bike handling meant a lot of people passed me on the singletrack, but my roadie horsepower meant I passed a lot of people right back on the long doubletrack climb. :D

I think I finished somewhere in the top 20 or so. I'll see if I can find any pics from the "official" photographers that were on site since I didn't have anyone to man my camera for me.

The American. I pulled all the commuter stuff off and did a quick overhaul of the drivetrain. Shifting wasn't great, but got the job done. :)

Yowsas!

I'm finding rides less and less fun now that it's so humid out ... I rode for an hour and a half yesterday at almost 2mph slower than usual, with a greater heart rate ... not to mention that I was completely soaked after (sweat).

Of course, I'm still riding just about every other day ... :) w00t!

The weather was actually pretty decent yesterday. Hot enought to get a good sweat going, but not disgusting. I was careful to super-hydrate prior to the race and only needed one bottle of H2O for the duration.
