TWC has given a 10% provisional speed bump (maybe in response to U-Verse's new upcoming speed increases).

Simply reboot your modem to see the results.

You can use www.speedtest.net to verify before and after speeds.

No. It was posted by a TWC employee in a thread at Broadbandreports (after many of us had already noticed) that they were increasing speeds by 10% for standard (15mbps) tiers and up.

Although 50 should have went to 55 or so. Congrats on going to 60 (at least for now)!

I do know some of the upper tiers have went up by more than 10% (75 to 88 for example). 100 has went to 120 in the Kansas City area.
 
I had to re-boot my modem yesterday, (power outage), I'm getting 11.5 Mb/s, I guess that's OK for basic cable service..
 
Rebooted modem.

Internet is now sluggish, and OpenDNS/DNSCrypt and Skype are barely able to maintain their connections.

First test timed out.
Second test: 0.37Mbps
(Service is >20Mbps, I don't remember which tier I'm allegedly at.)

Just another night on TWC.
It'll probably stop sucking by tomorrow.



Edit: There we go, back to normal: 15Mbps.

And it looks like I'm on the 20Mbps package. I guess 75% of what I'm paying for is better than the <1Mbps it drops to at least once a week.

I pay for 15/1 service with TWC. Did a few tests before reboot and was hitting average of 25/1 with multiple severs on speedtest.net. Not sure why, but I figure 27 down would be better than 25, so I rebooted. Now getting the expected 16/1.

You fucked me Engineer, you fucked me really good. 😛 Joking aside, doesn't matter to me, my internet is fast enough as it is. If anything, I want more upload but don't want to pay for it.
 
Comcast has done this in the past too.

I'm no telecom expert, but why do you have to reboot the modem in order to get faster speed? Can't they just send some kind of "hit" from the headend to give the modem the new info without rebooting?
 
I was legit 15/1 before, now 16/1. No biggie, but I suppose its nice to have a solid 2MB/s d/l....good enough for me. This is on a new Moto 6141 too.

To be honest, it made paying the bill less stomach-churning. I'll be moving this month - time to find a new ISP! 🙂
 
In other news, they will be increasing prices 3 times a year to make up for the speed increases. Hey, works for Comcast.

Has to "retrain" Training is basically the negotiation process of the modem. The speed is set at the DSLAM but if the modem trained at a certain speed it wont go higher. For ADSL usually the modem reboots on it's own when you set the speed though as it resets the connection from the CO end. At least that's from what I understand, I've done the actual change myself when I worked at help desk, but not 100% up to speed(no pun intended) on the technicalities of it.
