What the hell is the problem here people. We walk and talk with each other on a day to day basis with little problems, but for some reason, the moment we get into a vehicle, anger sets in and you just curse, make gestures, and exhibit actions that are to be expected of a seven year old.

I just sit in traffic and go home. If someone cuts me off, whatever, they can get in. They have to get in somehow, why not in front of me? If someone is tailgating the crap out of me, well okay, that is a little scary, especially if I have to stop suddenly, but they can do that all they want.

Especially for creeping slowly into the intersection? How many pet peeves do you people have? Why do you care so much about what other people are doing AT ALL? It isn't affecting your day, how you are going to get somewhere, what is going to happen when you get home...it affects NOTHING IN YOUR LIFE.

Sorry, just my attempt at starting a conversation (and it worked). I'm glad you're so easy-going with everything that you don't care about anything that doesn't directly affect you. I, on the other hand, occassionally converse about things that don't affect me. The other day a buddy told me about his coworker getting a divorce, and what a shame it was. Should I have retorted with "geez, why do you care!? It doesn't affect your life in any way, and mine neither, so stop talking about it!!"

Not sure what your other 9,600 posts were about, but clearly they've all been about things that 100% directly change the course of your day. Somtimes "shooting the breeze" can be entertaining. Give it a shot sometime.

Are you seriously comparing a divorce with creeping towards an intersection?

It's not simply conversing, it's people getting completely wound up about something meaningless and retarded. If someone asked me about people rolling forward I'd say something like "Interesting, I wonder why?" not "WTF is wrong with those jerks!! AAAAAAAAGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111!!!!!!!"

I think he is. I think the person he responded to was on the right track.

So your safety and your financial investment in your car are worth virtually nothing to you? I get upset at idiot drivers because if they hit me, it will at least be a serious inconvenience while I deal with getting a police report/getting my car fixed. At worst, it could cause serious bodily harm/death and financial difficulty. If you want to get over in front of me, use a turn signal. Otherwise, there's no way in hell I'm letting you in. It's the selfish bastard driver who thinks the road belongs to him and that he doesn't have to follow the rules of the road that put my life and limb at risk, and that pisses me off.

While you are being stupid at a light in your elite manual transmission vehicle, you are either rolling forward or backwards (gravity in case you aren't aware). Stupidity has no bounds as you are clearly showing here.

What you say? You absolutely do not.

Sorry, I live in an area where the land is not perfectly flat.

Your car doesn't have brakes? That's dangerous.

people with manual transmissions will occasionally use the engine to hold their car in relatively the same position, easing on and off the clutch within a few feet. it's to stave off boredom.

I've seen a few people do this. It's idiotic. I have no clue why anyone who drives a manual wouldn't just use their brakes or at least their handbrake.

When I'm on a slope, I often use my handbrake instead of my brake pedal when I'm starting so I get a smoother transition to movement and don't slide back.

when i'm on a slope, i just get off the clutch faster.

it's not really idiotic. it's their choice to wear out their clutch plate faster.. so what.

if i'm anticipating a light change, i'll shift into gear. if it's on a hill, i'll do this too.

Handbrake on a hill??? I think you need to learn to drive manual better.

You've never done this? I don't use the handbrake to stop, just to make starting when going up a steep hill easier. A lot of people do it and as far as I know there's nothing wrong with it.

Now if you'd rather berate me for using a driving technique that you're not familiar with, that's fine, but I think it would be more fair and civilized if you were to point me in the direction of a link demonstrating why I shouldn't be doing this. I did some Google searches and The Internet seems split on it.

theoretically, handbrake to start the car moving is proper driving technique. i just dont bother with it. the hills here arent bad enough that i'd be forced to do something like that. (i dont live in san francisco, thankfully.)

not seeing the problem here.

This.

Does the OP get easily distracted that someone else inching their way forward prevents them from driving?

If this REALLY is making you angry... i would suggest an Anger Management class.

Well, when traffic is really heavy, several cars doing that can mean that one car is ass-out into the previous intersection. I know of one intersection localy where this happens constantly and I honestly don't know how people don't get killed there every day.

During busy times of the day most traffic lights are on a set timer and ignore the number of cars that may be piling up in a given section.

Sometimes even I forget this. When I was doing my 6 - 2 job, I usually had to head out of the house by 5:30. One time I pulled up for a left turn and sat behind a dude on a bike for about 5 minutes with no other traffic. Then I noticed he was motioning me to come forward. I was like "Why the hell would this guy want me to crawl up his ass?!?" Then I realized he was too light to trip the sensor. I rolled forward a couple feet, and sure enough the light turned green.

EDIT:
As for the issue in the OP, you are assuming they are paying attention to the traffic in the other direction slowing down. When in reality there are probably more concerned with setting the favorites on their XM radio.

This.

I frequently run red lights because the damn sensors won't detect my motorcycle. After sitting through a few cycles getting pissed off, I don't care if I get pulled over. And I have, several times. Always get let off though because most cops at least seem to understand that the light won't trigger, and I'm not going to sit there hoping a car wants to go left too.

I really hate it at a four way stop. I come to a stop and Joe Mullet at the other stop sign thinks he will just keep rolling.

Thing is I don't know if he sees me or cares. Fuckers end up flailing their arms around and beeping their horns as if I have the issue.

I take it back. THAT is my number one pet peeve.
People who dont know the rules for right of way.
Or worse, I suspect they dont care or at least act like they dont know.

Rolling through stop signs is number 2 peeve.

Racing through red lights is number 3. And I see more of that every day. Apparently people think the yellow is a green, and the first 3 second of red is like yellow.

here we will have groups of people running a red until it turns green again. If you stop (I do) they will beep or just go around you. Pretty fucked up.

You aren't fucking working magic with your tires, it's going to turn to green eventually even if you never move again just calm the fuck down. Sometimes I wonder if, when it does turn green, they say something like "I knew that one would do it!"

I think this is why most people inch up constantly while sitting at a red. I wonder if anybody still flashes their lights at the traffic lights, thinking that will make them turn? :)

yes, i still see this around the valley here. usually older guys in small sporty cars doing it. it doesnt make the light change, it just pisses people off that are in front of you, lol. the only weird thing i do is leave a 1 car gap when i enter a turn lane and no one is behind me. that way, it triggers that "3rd car" sensor and gives us the green arrow, which is usually only set to trigger at 3 cars if there is no red arrow. this one i know is real tho, ive seen the program that controls the light changes.

Yep. Valley resident here too. I came here to post this. Everybody thinks I'm nuts until they see it. I always get the green turn arrow.

Another automatic snob. Jeez, do you have your food chewed for you too?

Comparing manually planting and growing crops to manually shifting a car is trivial. You're comparing something that requires unbelievable inconvenience to the average person to something that actually lowers the buying price of your car, increases the gas mileage, probably performs more reliably and potentially increases the performance of the vehicle. Its a win-win-win-win.

At the very least its the manual drivers who separate the rest of us from the majority of the female motorists on the roads that still take a second to remember: Brake/ Left , Gas/Right.

Do I need a flamesuit?

Then while waiting in line they inch forward a little bit, then stop and then inch forward again...WTF ARE YOU DOING?!? Just fucking pull all the way forward when you approach the car in front of you!!! Dont stop 5+ feet away and slowly inch forward while waiting there! It cant be any simpler, pull all the way up to the limit line at the red light or up to the car infront of you, wait there and then when its time to go, GO, creeping forward just makes you look like a douche bag!

I inch forward at red lights, does that make me the devil?

Who said anything about blowing past the light? I *know* of several intersections near my office where the light will not turn green unless you're at least 3 ft past the stop line. Unfortunately that's rather close to oncoming traffic, so most people stop at the stop line and then just creep up to the actual trigger point. It's obvious when they get to the trigger because the light *always* immediately starts to cycle.
