PSA: The windows silver theme looks like crap

It's remarkable that with all that money Microsoft can't hire a graphics design team worth a damn. Whoever thought the default blue, green, and red theme with the fugly landscape wallpaper looked good should be shot. Silver is ok, but the green button, holy sh*t that's bad.

Apple > MS

Apple > MS

in their infinite wisdom, they package 3 themes with XP...SO MANY CHOICES@!

Silver theme looks very good for a built in theme.

And this is important for all themes, silver included:

Start > Settings > Taskbar and Start Menu> Select "Auto-hide the taskbar".

Free screenspace, better looking, more useful.

Whenever I am stuck with using WinXP, I use the classic GUI. The default XP GUI looks like a Fisher-Price abortion.

BLASHPHEMY! Auto-hide = the lose!

Also, just right click on the task bar > Properties to get there faster 🙂

Agreed.

I always thought olive green looked the worst. Its fairly easy to match good backgrounds and icons to the silver and blue themes, but I've yet to find one that I though looked good and matched the olive theme.

I ran with StyleXP a while back, but I got tired of it sucking up RAM needlessly.

I thought everyone did that, but they don't

I don't, because I don't have time to sit around waiting for the taskbar to reappear. And it's handy knowing what time it is.

That's why the first thing I did was learn how to edit the theme file and recolor the Start button as well as the big cherry red close button and anything else that didn't appeal to my taste.

Example

that actually looks rather nice.
