Marriage is a once in a lifetime event (hopefully.) I realize everytime I go to weddings that life of the wedding is the deejay.

It can literally make and break the wedding. Aside from dancing, they have the power to truly lead the wedding and can breathe a life into the ceremony. This ranges from narrating ceremonial dances to charismatically pumping the crowd up for the reception.

Scenario 1:
I JUST got back from a friend's wedding. It was a very cozy ballroom in an isolated forest. They had the potential of having everything right but the DJ turned out to utterly buther the wedding. He played the shiitest music ever. He said it was geared towards older people but even they weren't dancing. The reception ended pretty damn early at around 9pm. It started around 4.

Scenario 2: I had the absolutely best time in the wedding just before the above. The DJ managed to pump everyone up, boy and girls + young and old. The reception went on and on and on. I didn't want to stop dancing and it went til quarter past midnight.

Please do yourselves a favor for your precious milestone of your life- GET A GOOD DJ. Do not overlook this aspect, I would even go far as to say that having a good DJ is one of the most crucial priority of your planning.

I definitely agree with you that a DJ plays a big part. I think alcohol helps as well. :)

I wholly agree. I am getting married in T minus 13 days and our DJ has been incredible. I thought we would just book him but he keeps telling us the wedding revolves around him...he is the contact point for almost all guests, he keeps people moving on the dance floor...but he also has to get certain groups of people dancing...then switch music to let them relax...you can't tire everyone out because people have to come up and dance in waves.

we have talked to several people who had him and they said it is amazing what a good dj can do. He is also a classically trained singer and dancer, but we told him NO SKITS or silly stuff...just keep it animated and keep the juices flowing. we shall see!

I was at a wedding once where the 2 DJ's re-enacted an entire dance scene from the blues brothers. it was like 7-8 minutes long. it completely took the show away from the bride and groom, it was really silly

i've also been to weddings where the music was non-stop high BPM dance music and everyone was exhausted within an hour....also one where they played nothing but jazz and no one really danced at all...

i totally agree! i once was at a wedding and nobody was dancing so the dj got us to play some fun games and stuff and people really got involved and then it just took off.

((an open bar also helps :p))
