PSA - The Internet really is a series of tubes

It's funny that somehow this very easy and very accurate description of the Internet is now the butt of jokes.

That's what it is folks. A series of tubes/pipes. Very analogous to the old system of putting information in an envelope, then placing in a container, and then putting it into the tube.

It's just a lot easier to think of it as pipes/tubes.

Yes, I'm being serious. There is nothing special about it.

I just the other day got, an internet was sent by my staff at 10 o'clock in the morning on Friday and I just got it yesterday. Why?

Because it got tangled up with all these things going on the internet commercially.

He's a member of a committee, it's not solely up to him. It will be OK, it's not like he can single handedly screw anything up.

As for his understanding of the internet, keep in mind that we here at AT are by no means normal... The vast majority of the world has absolutely no clue how the internet works. He's actually not doing that bad to be able to make that analogy.

Yes, it really is a series of tubes. This is why online gambling is so dangerous, the internet poker chips can get clogged in the tubes and then nothing else can get through! Sometimes lottery gambling is okay though because the little ball shoots through the tube and unclogs it like draino.

It's actually slightly more complicated than just a series of pipes and tubes, but that is a very, very basic way of thinking about it. You should watch the John Stewart clip that I suspected started this joke fad. The graphical itnerpretation of this was priceless.

its the poker chips clogging up those pipes, so you gotta use a lottery ball and blast it through, clearing the clog.
thats why we allow horse bets online, because the horses have legs and wont clog the pipes.
