yeah I was really surprised

Hard Mode was an amazing addition. All in all they basically more than doubled the length of the average play-through.

Granted, the way they increase Boss difficulty is pretty amateur, I'd really like to see better AI instead of just jacking up boss HP and damage potential. Old bosses like Eye of Cthulu and Eater of Worlds are a joke now.

I'd also like to see them expand crafting. Right now gemstones are pretty much only for aesthetic features whereas I think it would be cool if you could craft them into your tools/weapons to give them different properties, for instance you could say combine a sword with a diamond to give it a diamond edge and do more melee damage, or combine it with topaz to do fire damage or something...etc

Another thing I don't really care fore is how they level items by simply making each newer set hands down better, instead of having more of a disparity and forcing users to weigh strengths/weaknesses in what they choose instead of there being just one obvious choice.

Gems are used in the crafting of jungle armour.

Gems are used in the crafting of jungle armour.

which is like far and away the 2nd worst specialty armor in the game now (meteor being worse), and definitely not worth anywhere near the trouble it takes to craft it as necro and shadow armor are both so much better.

I suppose if you're going for a really early magic build its ok, but it doesn't hold a candle to later stage magic buffed armors like cobalt/mythril/adamantite/hallowed (which require no gems in their crafting), if only because early stage magic weapons simply aren't anywhere near as good as necro + a ranged loadout or shadow with melee

my point was that it would be a lot more fun if the gems were incorporated into crafting with more items, heck, prior to 1.1 it was only jungle and the phaseblades (of which even the pre 1.1 phasebladeswere pretty terrible, it wasn't until the phasesaber being crafted from a phaseblade did we truly get a item derived from a gem that was incredibly useful). Now they allow you to make colored torches with them, but otherwise they're really only good for selling for money, and they're not efficient enough to bother with in that regard.

The first time I played Terraria I got very excited when I started finding these gems, some of which were a lot more rare than gold, only to discover they're practically worthless.

I really like that idea. They kinda did something like it with the different helmets but to further add it to weapons would be a great addition. I just entered hard mode a couple of days ago. I have all of the cobalt stuff I need, working on getting my first mythril peices now but I'm thinking about killing the WoF again to get an emblem and clockwork assault rifle.

I'm a quite late realizing this, so it might be a repost, but apparently Terraria is discontinued. :(

http://www.terrariaonline.com/threads/my-fellow-terrarians.81455/

The future of Terraria has been highly debated as of late, not just with the community, but for us as well. The last year has been a crazy ride! When I started on this game, I just had a few ideas of what I thought would make a fun game. I had no idea that it would receive so much attention. I want to thank all of you for supporting us and making this game's success possible.

After a lot of internal debate, we have decided that it is time to move on. My wife and I are due to have another boy soon, and I want to spend some time getting to know him. I also want to spend the time recharging and bettering myself as both a programmer and game designer. I have learned a lot from working on Terraria and plan on using what I've learned, building upon it, and moving forward with another, even better project. However, we are still planning at least one more bug fix for Terraria.

For those that haven't already heard, Finn "Tiy" Brice has moved on to form Chucklefish and is heavily at work on an exciting new game called “Starbound”. It's looking to be a lot of fun, so make sure to check it out if you haven't already!

Thanks again for all your support, and I am very much looking forward to providing you with something much better than Terraria in the future!

My friends have been getting into it again recently, they're enjoying it but after a few nights of hard play it sounds about like they've done all there is to do; I never got into it, sadly one of them gifted it to me and I gave it a shot and didn't remotely enjoy it lol

I'm sad they never implemented Steam achievements. God I love Terraria so much. I've sunk as much time into Terraria as Skyrim and Fallout.

Another mega patch on top of the latest would be incredible. I hope they open source it too. I love both Minecraft and Terraria, but Terraria's bosses and progression are so addicting.
