This is long and most probably won't care but thought I'd share.

Cliffs at bottom.

For those of you considering ever getting one.

The SO and I got the Supreme pillow top Tempur-pedic mattress from Brookstone in May of this year.

Pros:
It is by far the most comfortable bed I've ever slept on and the same goes for her and we prior had a Select Comfort bed which just killed both of our backs.

I was in a wreck last December and couldn't sleep at night without taking pain killers because my back hurt so much more when I laid down, but now with this bed that is no long an issue.

My fiancee was having minor back pain also and this is no longer an issue for her either.

So many people complain about the bed being to hot and the new smell of it never going away but we've not experienced either of these issue, I'm a very hot by nature person and haven't had any more heat issues over my previous bed so I'd say this is a non-issue in reality and sure the mattress smelled funky when we first got it but after a few hours of airing out it was much less and over a week or so we didn't even notice it anymore.

Cons:
Price (of course)

Just as a FYI though, fitted sheets are a BIG issue on Tempur-pedic beds and you'd be amazed at how much this can piss one off when you have to deal with it every single day.

The issue is that they just slid off of one side through the night and end up being bunched up on one side of the bed, so one person ends up waking up with no sheets under them and we have to completly remake the bed each day which is just a PITA.

I did some googling on the subject and apparently this is a big issue for a lot of other owners as well so I decided to contact Tempur-pedic and ask them WTF they could do about it, heres their reply:

Dear lokiju:

Thank you for contacting us about your sheet situation.

I am sorry to hear that you are having problems keeping the sheets on your bed.

We do have a thin and breathable waterproof mattress protector that should help with this situation. The Mattress Protector is water resistant, washable and has deep pockets to accommodate your mattress. It will not hinder the performance of the mattress and has also been found to help prevent sheets from slipping by giving the sheets something to grip onto.

If you would like to purchase one, please contact our Tempur-Pedic® Direct Sales Department at 1 800 886 6466. You should also be able to purchase this at the Brookstone store where you purchased this bed.

Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance.

We appreciate your interest in Tempur-Pedic® products!

Fvck them and fvck that! They want me to buy something to fix an issue that is well known at the cost of $80 for my size bed when we already spend thousands on the bed itself!

So I e-mailed them back with:

Buy a mattress protector??!!?!

I spent $3,500 on a bed from your company and you want me to spend even more on a mattress protector?!?!?! That is OUTRAGEOUS and unacceptable!

There has to be some other way than me forking out even more money than I already have for this bed, this is not satisfactory by any means!

PLEASE do something more useful than tell me to spend yet even more than I already have.

Thank you,
lokiju

And moments I get this back from them:

Dear lokiju:

Thank you for your reply.

If you can fax me a copy of your sales receipt for the bed to 859 514 5726 I will request approval from my Supervisor to send you a mattress protector as a complimentary gift.

Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance.

We appreciate your interest in Tempur-Pedic® products!

Which goes to show what my Dad always said is true "The squeaky wheel gets the grease"

So for those of you who are considering, again this will hoepfully help in your decision process.

If anyone else wants to read up more on the pros & cons of tempur-pedic and about the sheet issue this is a good place.

You can buy straps for fitted sheeps to prevent them from sliding off, they are very inexpensive. Never tried them on a Temper-pedic but it is worth a shot.

Doesn't work we tried multiple ones and they just pop right off, we've found no solution on our own so far.

How did Select Comfort kill you back? COuld you not figure out how to use the remote to customize the firmness to what is most comfortaable for you? That's the whole point of those beds. If you adjust it properly, you won't have the pain...

Hmm, remind me to start complaining to companies if something pisses me off. Sounds like a good idea.

In any case... if you like firm beds, I'd imagine the Tempur-Pedic bed isn't for you? I switched from an old ratty twin bed (but firm) to a pillowtop queen bed and I didn't like it much. I'd assume this is a more extreme version of the change...?

I had the bed for years and it was never an issue for me until I was in my accident, it just doesn't support you the same way a Tempur-pedic can.

I tried every setting possible to man on that bed over a period of months without success, it just wasn't cutting it anymore.

Each person is different and Select comfort mattress might be better for some over a tempur-pedic or vise versa.

I have heard that the foam mattresses retain alot of body heat- is that true? Cause that would be a big time problem for me. I really need my body heat to be wicked away fast to sleep comfortably... Maybe I should sleep on a big copper Zalman heatsink?

What about heat retention on those latex mattresses?

I addressed this above in the OP but realize it's a lot to sift through.

But in short...

This was a concern for me as well since I'm a very hot natured person but has not been an issue at all, I am no more hot at night in this bed than my previous bed.

ah ok, I only read your "cons" thinking you would have mentioned the heat issue in there. I didn't expect it to be in the "pros" :)

Oh, one other thing... in your research over this mattress have you found alot of complaints about the foam giving way / collapsing? My only other fear about this mattress was that after a year the foam would be significantly weakened and it would not be comfortable anymore.

My current spring mattress developed a crater within only a few months and I'm extremely upset about that. I'm 6'4" 190 lbs so I'm not an obese person by any measure.

Keep in mind this used to be an issue on their earlier models but have since address this by adding chambers that allow for it to breath.

From what I understand this used to be a real issue though.

It's warrantied for 10 years, if the mattress collapses 3/4 of an inch or more they will replace your mattress within that period.

I've read of people actually have their mattress replaced because of this while other haven't had any issues, not sure if its a weight/temperature/humidity related issue really, but in my research prior to buying this mattress I did see a good number of people that have had their tempur-pedic mattress for many years and are still just as happy with it, while of course others aren't at least if you do get it and don't like it you can return it within 90 days for a full refund.

Useful info for me, I'm looking into getting one. Don't forget to follow up with how the mattress protector works. Question for ya: If you move around, can the other person feel it? My wife wakes up like every night because I twitch and move and roll around in my sleep. Do these foam beds help with that?

Should have mentioned that under the pros...

There is hardly any motion transfer what-so-ever, my previous Select Comfort was horrible in this aspect, just imagine sleeping on one of those blow up air mattresses you'd used for guest or camping or whatever and then apply that to a real bed, man that was annoying!

The tempur-pedic on the other hand has nearly no motion transfer except for the slight vibration/movement of the actual bed frame barely moving when someone gets in or out.

Keep in mind though that you have to have a flat solid box frame which you can buy for (king size) $400 or you can do what my fiancee and I did and just make one which cost us about $200 worth of wood and fabric from Home Depot & Wal-Mart.
