It's unbelievable how much shit falls/flies out the back of a truck or trailer because idiots don't know how to strap it down properly. On my way back to work today I had to swerve to the shoulder of the highway because there was an entire metal bed frame laying in the middle of the right lane. I pulled over and tossed it to the side of the road so no one killed themselves because of someone elses stupidity. I should have left a "FREE" note stuck to it. If I drove a truck I would of took it... as it was in perfect condition. Am I the only one who gets bitter over this?

A bed frame? I once almost ran into a REFRIGERATOR laying in the middle of the highway! A slew of vehicles were trying to avoid it and the potential for an accident was great. I called the cops immediately so they could get someone to clear it off the road.

How Do you guys do without a pickup truck. I would not know what to do without mine. So for everything you need moved you have to call a friend or rent a truck?

Several years ago I was driving a company truck down a 4-lane highway, and the plastic bed liner decided to fly out. I saw a whole bunch of cars behind me lock up their brakes. Yeesh I'm glad it didn't cause a wreck.

Essentially, yes.

Having recently graduated and joined the oh-so-pleasant "working class", I have no real reason for a truck just yet. (Not mentioning gas prices). Being in an apartment, you really don't need to move anything after the initial move.. which was all do-able with the help of family and friends.

People in the family have pickup trucks, so I always have access to one in a pinch. But I have to wonder, how often are you moving that you have to have a pickup truck? I've needed one exactly once in the last year (to get a lawnmower back to my house).

I was pulling a boat home that I had just purchased a few years back and the cover over the i/o flew out on the highway at 70 mph. Bounced around a bit but luckily did not hit any cars. I immediately pulled over and ran out into the 3rd of 5 lanes of traffic and got it. It didn't break, just had a small dot of road rash on a corner that didn't really matter. The straps that were holding it down (factory snaps), were rotten and air had gotten underneath it. So glad I didn't kill anyone.

I've nearly driven over a ladder before that fell off someone's truck/van also.

I guess I can see that living in an apartment. For me having a truck was not enough. I purchased a trailer for it to haul even more. My wife has been wanting some more furniture. Its such a luxury to hook up my trailer to my truck and go and pick it up that day with no delivery fees.

Was driving to work yesterday and a truck going the opposite direction had a couple of bats of insulation fall of.

Several years back I was driving one of those big GMC vans on the truck chassis (Savannah?) and the truck ahead of me had some sheetrock strapped down on a rack. unfortunately they only strapped it down the middle, perpendicular to the direction of travel (side to side and not front to back) so traveling 65 down the highway they caught air between the sheets which caused some to fold back and snap off. Evasive maneuvers in a van like that were a bit harrowing.

I remember hearing a case once from a lawyer friend telling me about a ladder that flew off the top of a van/truck that wasn't strapped down. It went right through the windshield of the car behind it.

I once saw a 4-wheeler roll out the back of some guys truck in the highway. Was the funniest thing because he just kept on driving and didnt know that it was now in pieces. I also came across a old steel grill on the highway. I was lucky because it was right around the onramp that I was on but one car almot hit it and while trying to miss, ended up spinning out and going into the median.

A few years ago (I actually posted it here on ATOT), my cousin was driving to school when chunks of ice flew off the top of a semi infront of her. Luckily she saw it all and ducked while the ice chunks flew through her windshield. The force was so strong it took the headrest right off of the seat and even ended up hitting the rear windshield (going through the entire car). The trucker didn't hit the brakes at all and kept going while my cousin was in a ditch on the side of the road. They ended up finding the guy who was driving since my cousin remembered the company logo on the back of the truck. They were able to track him down via his route, time, etc. I wonder if that thread is still around...
